Just out of curiosity, how is this different from doing a backup from BB DM? One can easily save a copy of the ipd file onto one's media card.

I just installed it and only had a quick look but I can name a few reasons. A good backup schema consists of multiple copies and offsite. Also not everyone has DM. By the look I had you could also do selective restores as they are in their native format ie contact=vcf, calendar=vcal...etc.
