I guess that would be like buying a Rogers 8900 and it won't work on T-Mobile's UMA.

The dangers of unlocking - full functionality may not be available.

this is very weird then because i bought a bold for a friend and unlocked it to use on t-mobile and she says she was updating stuff and BAM ! locked back to att network only.

She's wrong. Once a phone is unlocked, it stays unlocked. The handheld OS has nothing to do with it.
