Sorry Mark, I was assuming you had the program, didn't realize you needed a tester. But hopefully I can still help..
ALL of my ringtones are mp3 format. If you're using just full mp3's as a ringtone, that's your problem. You just need to crop the parts of the song you want as your ringtone. I crop LARGE portions of the song, in the event that I let it ring all the way through and go to voicemail (don't want the song repeating itself) and am always WELL under 1MB, with no loss in quality at all.
There's a very simple program called wavepad (it used to be freeware, but some sites make you pay for it now, do a little digging and you should be able to find a free version) that makes this very simple. You select the beginning and ending of the portion of the song you want to use as a ringtone, cut it, start a new project, paste, and save the flie as an mp3 (I always choose the highest quality options here). That way you still get to use whatever ringtones you want, in mp3 format and be well under the 1MB limit.
To the other poster, check out this link (it will be worth anyone's time to click, even if you're not interested in the software :p):
Let me google that for you
PM me if you all have any questions, as I forget to check back on threads often!!
