Default RIM Need to Get Their Act Together !!!

Please Login to Remove!

Firstly, I wish RIM would get their act together and offer the 8800 and 8300 devices with both GPS and WiFi, instead one or the other, and offer that device to all the Carriers. Right now, they must have 4 different devices, all going to different Carriers and it's frustrating for their consumers...at least I find it frustrating. I want the WiFi, but my carrier only offers the GPS, and I cannot switch Carriers without paying a hefty cancellation fee. I have the 8830 but find the GPS useless without being able to download and 'install' the maps necessary to run the Program. This leads me to my second request.

Secondly, if RIM is going to offer GPS, then for heavens sakes allow the storage of maps on the MicroSD Card. What good is the card if you cannot use it in that manner.

Just my rant...

Nick

My understanding is that the carriers decide whether they want to carry wifi and gps. I don't see why all carriers wouldn't want to provide gps but wifi is another story.

It's up the carrier what options will be on the device and what they want to charge extra for...

Ok, but if RIM were to provide GPS and WiFi on ALL their BB's then the Carriers would have to provide those services. Most all PPC's have both so I do not understand why RIM doesn't follow suit with their BB's.

Surely RIM can at least work on the SD card capabilities, and while they are at it, to ramp up their OS as well, so we can start to get better quality Programs from some of the developers.

Not nessecarily, RIM built GPS into the 8830, however VZW does not offer this service on the device (Sprint does). The carriers could still pick and choose which services they would like to offer you. They could charge you for those additional features. It really is up to the carrier more so than RIM to a degree.

Sadly, its up to the carrier what they support and what they don't.

When you throw beer to this pack, you have to stay around and drink it with them. It's a law.

Thats BS, why then do carriers already carry other phones that have wifi and GPS. Its a RIM thing not carrier IMO. We've been through this, its better for them to stretch out the life cycle of the models by releasing multiple versions. Annoying but it appears to be RIM business model at the moment.

You may be right, but Verizon is the odd carrier out. They only offer GPS using the VZ-Nav application which does not run on the RIM platform. At Verizon wireless its all about nickle-an-dime'ing the consumer to death.
