Question BB update - All my preferences have gone

Please Login to Remove!

Ok, sorry if this has been asked, I did a search but not sure of best search terms...

I hooked up the 9700 to my Mac earlier and was told there was loads of updates, I duly downloaded them and BB restarted and once it has restarted I find that the main menu has re-organised itself. I was a little unhappy about that, but maybe that's just a BB thing??

So I move MSN and Google Talk and Facebook back to where I wanted them and hid the folders I didn't want, etc, etc, and then try to sign back in to MSN - what's this - it's taken me back to that blackberry page to download it again ???

ALSO the BB has forgotten the alarms I setup on an alarm app I bought, and even which wifi network is mine...

Luckily there is a restore point so I'm just reverting - but is that normal??

Cheers,

Dave.

EDIT: Oh, so backup has not restored my apps and settings, much less in-love with my BB now :(

Bad etiquette to hijack another's thread plus your question is not even relevant. Post it in the 8900 section.

What troubleshooting steps have you taken so far?

Have you tried a battery pull?

Hi,

Ok so my troubleshooting was a little lame, I panicked, went through all the visible folders in case my apps had just been moved somewhere else and finally just plugged it back in to the Mac to try the restore, unfortunately the restore did not restore very much.

After restore - what does still work as before?

Wifi (knows my network again)
My ringer choice and settings (volume, vibrate etc)
Time/Date
My SMS messages are there
My Emails are there

What does not work or went completely?

I bought an Alarm app as I want more than 1 alarm - the app is there but all alarms cleared (quite frustrating this one).
MSN had been uninstalled
Facebook uninstalled
Google Chat uninstalled
BB Messenger uninstalled (and when I reinstalled it I have lost my contacts but no biggie)
BB App World has been uninstalled
Yammer still there but reset so forgot my account details
Flickr uninstalled

Have no Idea at all what caused this and I am just hoping this is a one-off - something to put down to bad luck.

Cheers,

Dave.

From RIM

Overview
After using the BlackBerry Desktop Manager to upgrade a BlackBerry smartphone from BlackBerry® Device Software version x.x to BlackBerry Device Software version 5.x, a number of applications that were previously installed needed to be installed again. For more information, see KB19913.

After reinstalling the missing applications, the Facebook for BlackBerry smartphones and MySpace for BlackBerry smartphones applications do not have an icon within the Applications folder on the BlackBerry smartphone. These applications cannot be launched within BlackBerry App World by going to My World. Reinstalling either Facebook for BlackBerry smartphones or MySpace for BlackBerry smartphones using My World with the respective download icon that may appear on the BlackBerry smartphone, or from BlackBerry App World, produce this issue as well.

Additionally, the following error message appears on the BlackBerry smartphone upon startup:

Uncaught exception: java.lang.error

The Email Settings icon in the setup folder is also not present after the upgrade.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cause
Required modules for the Facebook for BlackBerry smartphones, MySpace for BlackBerry smartphones, and Email Settings applications are not properly updated to BlackBerry Device Software version 5.0 during an application load where Backup and restore third-party applications is selected in the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.

This issue is currently under investigation by our development team.

oh, that's great, thanks, at least I know it's something that's known about, probably nothing I did and hopefully nothing that will happen again

Cheers,

Dave.

The RIM support site usually has a listing of the various bugs.
