Default OS: 9700 5.0.0.1607/5.0.0.979 (Multilanguage)

Please Login to Remove!

Software For BlackBerry® Bold (TM) 9700 smartphone
This will install to any carrier's 9700 by following the instructions below.

BlackBerry Handheld Software v5.0.0.1607 (All Languages)

Package Version: 5.0.0.1607
Consisting of:

* Applications: 5.0.0.979
* Software Platform: 5.1.0.177
* File name: 9700jAllLang_PBr5.0.0_rel1607_PL5.1

Download from AT&T: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...E4F82F9F00E7D4

Download from O2 UK: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...B73B97E1AAA491

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 9700:

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a black "BlackBerry" screen with a status bar for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again, and it should load the OS to the device.

For the previous OS, see this link: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ilanguage.html

The same version has been released by AT&T, but the exe file is smaller than the one from O2. 135 MB (att) vs 161 MB (o2).

Thanks Simon, the O2 version is ALL languages version and the ATT version is MultiLanguage, which contains less language codes, otherwise, identical.

I have ATT. It wouldn't load my Visual Voice Mail. I dumped the option since I enjoyed the options available on YouMail.

Default BB9700 died during new OS install

Help, My BB9700 died this morning while doing the latest Official AT&T update. All I get is a blinking red light and that's it. Battery was fully charged before I did the deed.

During the update I got a message that the update failed. I've tried using BBSAK to totally wipe it but still not working. Tried at home as well as work and it keeps telling me it's not connected. When I plug it in the computer sees that I plugged it in, but BBSAK and BB DM fail to see it. Again both at work and home. So Ixxx8217;m thinking itxxx8217;s the device and not the software? Did it die a hard death?

I took it to a AT&T corporate store on the way home this evening. They look it up on my account. She canxxx8217;t see when I bought it, which was in July from Best Buy. She tells me I have to take it to Best Buy as thatxxx8217;s where I bought it. WTF I said is this not AT&T? She then proceeds to tell me that I have to take it to a Service Center across townxxx8230;Are you kidding me I askxxx8230;Yep!! Why canxxx8217;t you see it I askedxxx8230; She does not know!! Do you know when my contract expires? Yesxxx8230;She explainsxxx8230;but I canxxx8217;t tell when you bought it!!

Any thoughts on battery life and signal strength yet from those that have installed it?

I'm on 5.0.0.680 (bundle 1149, Platform 5.1.0.160) and the battery life has been absolutely amazing.

Battery life is great. Signal, is sooo much better. I had a lot of problems with holding 3G. It wanted to drop to 2G. Now with .979 it holds 3G solid! Its awesome

Which version were you running before you upgraded?

I have ran every version released for the 9700. All had the same problem. (Holding 3G) I also tried the OS 6 leak. It also held 3G good, but had a few bugs so I went to the .979 when it released

Default Got it working!

Took the phone to the service center on Saturday morning. They got it working. The battery was shot. Once they put a new battery in they installed the new OS. Lost everything, but I had just synced the day before.

Back in business again and I'm happy!

I asked the guy about taking the phone to Best Buy, they said they never heard of that.

AFCEA,

You took the BB to a reseller not an ATT store( hard to find ) They have a store front called " Device Support Center" that will help.
If you cannot find one then call a few ATT sellers and ask if they are a corporate store and can help. They may direct you to a DSC but in any case you will be helped.

Keep in mind the resellers are for selling and generally do not want to get into repairs or other cost issues.
