Default Black Housing For 8800

Please Login to Remove!

Has anybody replaced the dark navy-blue housing on their Cingular 8800 with this black housing from CNN.CN.COM - This Domain Name is Registered with CentralNic Ltd, The Global Domain Name Registry.

Cellular Accessories - SonyEricsson, NEC, Motorola, Nokia, Panasonic, Sanyo and Samsung. Quality housing, keypads, LCD screens, chargers, batteries, data cables, parts

If so, how is fit/finish/quality? Is it hard to do the replacement?

It says OEM so one would assume they are direct from RIM. I've not heard that anyone has tried them.

Although I am new to BlackBerry and BBF...I am far from a newbie when it comes to mobile phones (use, modifying, buying/selling). I have bought several body and trim pieces from Cnn.cn, with various degrees of satisfaction. Although they claim that all their parts are OEM...their quality control, or the QC of the parts manufacturer are sometimes lacking. Some parts I have had are actually better than those on the original device...but some have had poor fit and questionable quality.

Sooooo...I was just hoping that somebody else had been the guinea pig, instead of me...I guess! LOL

The black sure looks sexy though.

I've never purchased anything from there either. I always wonder where they get the parts. Are they buying direct from RIM? Are they seconds? Anyway, it's a good question. I'm guessing that you could buy 3 of their OEM housings and get varying quality in all three.

I bought the black case. Quality is excellent, and the swap takes about 10 minutes.

They don't seem to have the keypad. I was hoping to change an 8830 to black.

No keypad. The 8830 keys spacing is fine but the color of the keys, letters and backlight - along with the DUMB stylish half-key protrusion are examples of terrible design.

I ordered the black kit and it arrived yesterday. I haven't done anything with it yet though.

Each part looks identical to the Cingular branded one although they do feel pretty flimsy. I'm assuming it's just because they aren't fitted yet. The finish doesn't have the glossy look that the Cingular one has. The black one looks very plastic, whereas the Cingular one almost looks like bakolite. Overall, the Cingular one gives the impression of better quality and a more substantial housing.

I'm still not sure whether to bother fitting it because the blue keyboard might look out of place with a jet black housing.

The kit came with the following:
  1. Rails (with buttons in place)
  2. Back plate
  3. Battery cover
  4. Front housing
  5. Trackball and housing
  6. Middle plate
  7. Torque screw driver
  8. Tool to prise open the case

This is exactly what I was concerned about. The quality of plastic...or at least the type used by RIM for the Cingular-branded phone is a higher grade than that sold as "OEM" by Cnn.cn. Their parts may be made by the same companies that supply housings for the phone manufacturers...but they are not always the same quality in fit, finish, or construction.

Guess I'll pass...thanks!!

I think he was just talking about the difference between TMobile's and Cingular's. The different carrier's BB's have often been made out of different plastic. The 8700g and the 8700c seem to be different plastic. It's probably just the difference between the two models. Just my $.02.

Did you fit it on a Cingular 8800? Does it look OK with the blue keyboard?
