Default BB server issues.

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I hope this is the right place for my post !

I am new to troubleshoot a BB server. We have recently installed a new BB server and everything seemed fine. We are using 2 8800 BB devices and there are no problems.

All of sudden we find the BB services are stopped (like Blackberry Collaboration Service, Blackberry Controller, Blackberry Synchronization Service) and or that the server is using too much of memory and we do not receive any mails on the devices. Aftere restarting the server, it works fine for few days and again there is some problem.

As said am quit new for troubleshooting, please guide where to start with.

Thanks and regards,

drivesafely.

Please post your hardware specs and software specs. Are you running the current patches for your os/applications?

Have you checked your server logs? It may give you more insight on the root of the problem.

The services being stopped can be due to varioud reasons:

- As mentioned, do check the log files to get an insight of the issue.
- Make sure the services are set to start on Automatic, and use the same LogOn as the other Blackberry services.
- Also check the event viewer to get the event ID for the failing services.

Are you able to restart the services?

Hi,

Thanks for reply,

I could not make out much from the logs as its huge and what to look for !

Hardware is SUN Fire X2100 M2, Dual-Core AMD Opteron, 1.81GHz, Memory-2GB.

One more thing noticed now is that the usage of memory keeps on increasing ! the current usage of memory is showing 4GB ! Yesterday, when i restarted the server, the memory usage was showing upto 5GB, which went down after restart.

We are using Groupwise 7.0 for email. All services are Automatic. LogOn for all services is "This Account- .\Administrator". Only "BB Attachment service is - Local System Account". I can restart all services except-Blackberry Alert.

Good thing i noticed while trying to restart all services one by one is - when i restarted "BlackBerry Syncronization Service" the memory usage dropped down flat to 700mb from 3.5GB ! I think this is what is causing the problem.

Please guide.

Thanks in advance.

I believe SP5 is out so you can update your BES to 4.1.5
Are you running BES on the same server as your mail server?
Do you have s/mime turned on?

Check the logs for warnings.
