Question .docx files?

Please Login to Remove!

Why will my BB Pearl not open .docx files? It will open .doc files but not the .docx? Is it a MS Office 2007 thing?
Thanks

BIS 2.5 or BES 4.1.5 will have these native viewers. Docs2Go will also support these, and i *believe* e-office already does, though you will have to check with them on that. BIS and BES updates are coming "soon"

So there is nothing wrong with my BB? And I should just wait for the update? My BB Pearl is only about 2 weeks old? Is this still the issue?
Thanks for the quick reply!!

.docx files are saved in Microsoft Word 2007 you will only be able to open those files in Word 07 nothing else.
As a nice precaution you can set Word 07 to automatically save in .doc format. Your preference but will save you some compatibility issues.

docx files will be available in the native BB viewer with the updates that i specified. Word 07 is not the only thing that can open them. the rest of what you said is correct, Office 2007 can save to previous formats.

for the most part yep, the docx file is just a wrapper for it. if you dont have office 07 and you open the docx file it opens the XML guts.

Do you suggest loading 2007 on the BES?

do you have the BIS/BES update that allows the Docs2Go functionality? or are you just using the apps that are installed on the device? just curious on the setup. Docs2Go for other platforms supports office 2007 formats, so it would make sense that the final release would also allow for this functionality.

I also read somewhere that Docs2go won't support .docx files.
I'm sorry I can't tell you where I read that anymore, but I'm pretty sure about that.

Well the last time i spoke to DataViz they said that docx files will be supported. They might have changed this (companies frequently do of course) but thats the latest info i have.

PDA Software - Palm OS Software, Windows Mobile Software, Windows Smartphone Software, Symbian UIQ Software, Symbian Series 60 Software, Symbian Series 80 Software, Java MIDP 2.0 Software - Developed By DataViz
on the site the picture for Docs2Go has the description of "The first mobile suite to support Office 2007 files and attachments". Click on that it shows the various OS's that it works on, including BB. I have sent an email so lets see if they respond.

Edit: good lord that is a long title for the web page

docx files are native to mac office 08 also. And as far as I am aware you can only up them up using office 08.

If you can't wait for the update, why can't just find a computer with Office 2007 (at schools, office, public library etc.) open the file, and save it as 97-2003 version. You can download the trial or short version of it to use at home also.

I can't view .docx files in my native viewer on my 8100 running 4.2.1.x. Is this a function of the newer OS's?
