Default BB8800 - GPS problem

Please Login to Remove!

Hi guys,

I have recently bought my 1st BB, the 8800, from O2(UK). I installed the BBmaps from BB.com, and it looks fine, the maps are there and i can search for locations in them.
When i try to activate the GPS it appers the message "searching for satellites...", which i think is nornal, however it never finds any. Therefore i haven't had the chance to see the gps working yet.

My question is: Am i missing anything? Do I need to install any other software? Is it a network problem where I have to configurate something with O2?

Many thanks for your help.

Manuel.

PS: I live in london, so i tryed it in town as well as in the outskirts.

Are you inside or outside when you try? Usually cannot acquire satellites inside a building.

odd m8, it does take a little while to acquire satellites, a couple of mins at least but I'd hope you've given it that. Is the same displayed in Options, Advanced Options, GPS? It's likely to be tbh and if you can get out into big open air (park) and find the same I'd reflash the OS/apps.

Failing this I'd suspect HW fault unfortunately :(

good point Roadrunner, hehe, shouldn't presume, even out of a car

I'd suggest trying a different GPS app. BBmaps is pretty awful.

Well Telenav appears to be the best but with you being in London youd be better off with Wayfinder. Unfortunately you have to pay for it. The only way you can try for free is BBmaps. If this continues you may want to try an exchange before your return period is up, just to see if it is a hardware issue.

Hy guys,

Well..., i guess i didn't know to work with it at the time...silly...
Now it works fine, just followed the usual procedure.
Many thanks to all of you and i am sorry to bother you about it.

By the day which other programmes do you suggest that are compatible with the BB 8800?

Manuel.

If you remove the battery and then replace it back in again this should solve your problem. I had the same issue and this solved. Mind you BB Maps is of limited use anyway!!

No it does not. It relies on GPS satellites. You need to have a clear line of sight of the sky to lock on.

I suggest reading my GPS tips site first and then come back with questions.
