One of the shots shows that it is an EDGE device (one with the OS version). I would say T-Mobile will have it first since they had original Pearl before anyone else. If that's the case and I'll be able to use WIFI to make calls, its time to say good by to AT&T.

Like I mentioned, don't count on T-Mobile@Home service.

Making calls through WiFi is entirely different than browsing the web or using data through it.

And with Sprint already making it's debut with the Pearl 2.. They'll have it first.
I don't doubt that T-Mobile will be the first GSM carrier to offer the device, with AT&T's recent launch of the iPhone. There's too much money tied up in it without enough return just yet to offer it.

Wow that a damn cool phone, other than the color that is.

Personally, I don't think the color is that bad. It looks the same color as my Honda Oddysey. I think we'll have choices.

am I the only one that isnt just overly impressed with this new update?

I dont know what it is about it...it seems like it is more akin to the pearl 1.5 then the pearl 2.

it doesnt look like the battery cover was improved that much...the clip that holds on the cover part...I suppose more is to be said once the device gets out. personally I would love to see the phone with a metal outer covering...I do believe that would make me happy. maybe a brushed aluminum?

In my experience the problem was more the battery doors than the latch. I tried several different battery doors on my pearl and some latched great. Others slipped of easily. it just has to do with the mold of the door. However, that being said, it would have been nice to see an improved latching system.

I'd rather have a BB Curve.

its funny how WiFi is on and battery is low as it was shown in the picture...I wonder how well is the battery life compare to the 8100.

However, does seem tempting!

I'm with you on this. Most of the significant improvements appear to be available with an OS upgrade, i.e. improved media player, A2DP. Wifi is compelling but not enough to make me ditch my current Pearl. The others, 3.5 jack, external card slot, yeah, they're nice, but I can surely live without them. Yawn.

The new one looks pimp, but I with the previous post, I have an iPod for music, so the 3.5 jack doesnt affect me, and the external sd slot does nothing for me too, since I never take mine out. Honestly the keyboard is what got me into a pearl. I was looking at the Sidekick until I actually played with it and found out they are poo.

3g would be worth the upgrade.

I am hoping the 9xxx (what I would assume 91xx for the suretype version)
would have the gps(unhindered), wifi would be nice but with 3g not as necessary for just surfing the web purposes. Faster processor. More ram if that is an issue with loading speed.

It almost seems like the pearl was RIM sticking their toe in the water before they dive in. I would assume the 9xxx would be RIM's fully committed move to the consumer market.

the 8120 seems like RIM starting lead off right before they are trying to steal second.
