The 7290 has no memory card.
No memory card, no music.
You can download ringtones via the browser.
You can load a few pictures by mailing them to your BB.

That's about it.

To do what you want, you need a BlackBerry with a microSD card.

That's what you get for using a BB that is 3-4 generations old. The 7290 is about 93 in dog years.

Newer models of blackberries are capable of latest ringtones, music, and pictures and high-end softwares.

With 7290, it is limited to what you can do with picture images. You can't do that with desktop manager, sorry.

I appreciated your answer as it shows you are thinking outside the box, and using your Blackberry for more than just the native PIM, etc. I'm new to the 7290 and hope you can expand on this topic, for files other than images:
I'd like to see which external data transfers in a directly-usable form between the local PC and the BB, (besides images). In Desktop Mgr 4.3, the Switch Device Wizard allows transfer of data to the Blackberry from another device locally, via USB. But is that mainly only for storage (within its limited capacity) ? -- more exactly, which types of external data can be used by the Blackberry native apps? for instance, can .txt and .rtf files be transferred to the BB, integrate well on the BB and can be edited by the Memo and To-do List app? etc.? (and how about phone contacts?)
Please answer this question being specific about file types/extensions?

Nothing - repeat nothing - can be edited with the Memo function. It creates internal files that are synced over to your PIM (I use Outlook).

Forget the crap about outside the box - the 7290 has extremely limited additional capabilities due to the lack of the microSD media card. Since you can not map a drive to the internal memory, you can't do much of anything. You can e-mail yourself pictures and download ringtones via the browser.

You may want to look into an application like eOffice which can handle the editing of Office files on your BlackBerry.

Not sure what you are trying to do with phone contacts; most people use the Intellisync function to keep their desktop PIM (Outlook; Notes) in sync. You edit the contact using the built in features. That's about it.

What are you trying to accomplish?

Default Registration Issue

I purchased an unlocked 7290 from ebay--the device is brand new out of the package, however when I tried to set it up with my local carrier they tell me that the IMEI has been registered already and that I would have to unregister it. Can this be a mistake and/or if not how do I fix the issue? Thanks in advance.

You bought it from eBay. It was used. Forget the packaging. You are going to have to contact the ORIGINAL carrier (the one branded on the BB) to have it released.

Your English is fine, please ask about anything you did not understand, in the questions from my post of 04-17-2008, 11:12 PM ? The gist of that post was questions about file formats/extensions used by the Blackberry native apps, and their transferability. I'm researching/following up on the reply posted by NJBlackBerry 04-17-2008, 11:16 PM on this issue, and will reply to that one when I have something to add.
