Do you really need Desktop Software 4.1? I DL'd Desktop SW 4.1, but didn't run it and installed 4.1 OS on my 7100t with no problems at all with 4.0 Desktop SW. Also, I edited the vendor.xml file before loading the OS.

3) Install Desktop 4.1 SW
4) Backup using 4.1 Desktop SW - close Desktop SW
5) Install OS file
6) Remove vendor.xml
7) run desktop SW

I did this on a T-Mobile US 7105 with a slight twist.

1) did not read instructions
2) screwed up and downloaded file through my proxy which somehow corrupted the file
3) screwed up and deleted *all* themes before install
4) screwed up and opened BB Desktop after 4.1 install (and before deleting vendor.xml)

I fixed it all by:

1) read *all* the posts
2) cleared call log (on my non-themed, black and white screened, 4.1 bb)
3) deleted RIM folder in Application Data (as posted earlier)
4) renamed vendor.xml but did not delete it
5) reinstalled 4.1 upgrade
6) connected bb and opened bb desktop (using 4.0 not 4.1)
7) everything installed and all is well with the world

THe only thing I am noticing is the browser speeds seem a bit slower. It was much faster for me on 4.0 but that could be TMO network congestion right now. Also BES synch hasn't kicked in yet.

I have downloaded the Hong Kong CSL, but when I run the program my Device Manager becomes 4.1, the Desktop Manager stays at 4.0 and nothing happens with the phone firmware. I'm afraid I don't have a clue what I'm doing. Any help??

HOLY BALLS FOLKS I GOT IT TO WORK! Bout darn time! Browser is there. Thank you everyone who took the time to help with this. If I was loaded with cash I would fly you all here for a party. But I have to go spend my time and money researching some good alternatives for my BB once the shutdown goes through....

Just kidding...stupid media and their scare tactics.

Nextel phones are completely different guts inside and have to use Nextel or Telus software.
I don't know about Nextel, but I have the Honk Kong 4.1 OS working fine on my CDMA BB 7250 from Alltel.

I did this:
0) exited out of current version of Desktop Manager and BB Device Manager
1) downloaded the hong kong 4.1 software
2) downloaded the 4.1 version of the desktop manager (north american version)
3) deleted my Vendor.XML
4) installed both #1 and #2 (did NOT start Desktop Manager when asked)
5) deleted my Vendor.XML file again
6) ran the new Desktop Manager
7) plugged in my BB via USB cable
8 followed the on screen prompts for updating my BB (it took about 20 minutes)

When all was said and done, my BB is working fine. There are some icons in the wrong place, but I moved them back. I also had to turn BBlight back on. But those are no big deal at all.

Angry Dead 7105T

The upgrade started fine but seems to have died at the end. Now all I get on the BB is a box with a circle around it with a line going through the circle like Ghostbusters and the numbers 507 at the bottom. I think I killed my Blackberry. I have pulled the battery out of it several times with no luck. Any ideas on how to revive it?

Yep, just hook it up to desktop manager and load the OS. It just means it's wiped.

1) Did anyone's icons change on the 7290 like they do on the 7100 series?

2) If anyone is missing bluetooth profiles such as desktop sync, they will appear in options if you have not paired any devices yet. Try deleting your headset an you should see this.

Here is a question. Does a change in the OS (4.0 to 4.1 on Tmobile 7100t, no BES) have any effect on reception of the phone? For instance when I travel to a certain location, I roam onto Cingular and then Indigo Wireless. Will the OS upgrade have any effect on my device running on those networks when in roaming?

Some OS upgrades do fix issues. 4.0.2 for cingular phones fixed a roaming issue in San Diego for example.

But it is unlikely that you would lose roaming capabilities with an OS upgrade correct? I just don't want to lose the ability to roam Onto those networks when I travel.

Default 7100v and move icons

Sorry to ask this, but i have searched and have not been able to find it. I have upgraded to 4.1 and now want to move icons around on the home page. Can anyone tell me how to do it? I tried the alt track wheel approach and couldnt get it to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

When I try this it says that i have to have 4.1 installed to download themes or wallpapers, i have checked and everything is installed and working great except trying to download themes. Does anybody else get this same error?
