Default Imap

I am in need of some advice. Currently our email (we are a home office) is POP based and we also have a webmail version of it. The provider (Network Solutions) also has a IMAP version available and we can have access to it. One of us has an iPhone and I have a Blackberry Curve (soon to upgrade to a BOLD whenever it comes out!).

I am not quite clear on IMAP .. I understand its like Exchange - whereby emails are sync'd as well as contacts. Does this work with the Blackberry? Does it work well? and is it push?

Any insight into this would be helpful. Currently I have my POP mail FORWARDED to my BB as I wanted it faster than the 15 min polling.

Regards

Jonathan

The Blackberry's BIS implemetation is such that configuring using IMAP will likely behave very much like POP (polled, and you only get new mail). You may get better sync between BB and the service with IMAP (read mail, deleted mail) depending on the IMAP/POP implementation at Network Solutions.

And does it work with contacts as well? How do folders work on the BB?

In order for Contacts and Folders to sync to the BlackBerry you would need some sort of BlackBerry Enterprise Solution (if you want it done wirelessly). I use a Hosted Exchange & BES solution from The Message Center.

Hi, This is Gerry @ Network Solutions. The Iphone and BB works well with our IMAP service.

For more information about IMAP this is a very brief and straighforward guide.

You may get better sync between BB and the service with IMAP, might be worth a try.
