Default Will bes 10 run on SBS 2003?

Please Login to Remove!

I presently have BES 4.1.4 running on my Windows Small Business Server 2003 for my 2 BB phones. When BB10 launches next month we will eventually upgrade both phones to Z10's. Will I be able to move up to BES 10 to support these new phones with my SBS 2003 server? Assuming full uninstall of old bes and fresh install of BES 10?

I don't think so. I see BES 10 is made for the next generation of Blackberry (QNX engine-> BB 10 and playbook). To manage Blackberr v7.0 and lower version, still you have to do it with BES v4 or v5.

So if you buy BB Z10 or Q10, you must install BES 10 on separate server with active sync enable on the mail server. Minimum system requirement for BES 10 is : Windows 2008 x64, RAM 6 GB, processor Xeon. BES 10 support UDS that you can also manage IPhone and Android device.

That's not what was asked.

OP, you probably can given that you only have two devices. However, with BB10, you won't need the BES if you are using Microsoft Exchange for your mail services.

BES 10 needs BES 5 SP4 to support java devices and you also need Windows 2008 or 2012 64 bit server OS to install it on to.

BES 5 and BES 10 can not be installed on same server or use the same BESMGMT database.

If you dont need any policies cept for password, EAS works well on BB10.

Doesn't sound good for me. Don't have equipment, budget to run multiple servers for 2 BB's. Don't have equipment, budget to be upgrading to SBS 2008 just to go to BB 10. Unless I can get this to run on my existing hardware, we'll probably have to stay with our old BB's for the forseeable future. It's a small shop and I'm a part time IT guy so very little resources to devote for just 2 devices.

Are you not using Exchange for your mail?

We are using exchange 2003 but we use the exchange pop3 connector to send and receive our mail with pop mailboxes. Never wanted to expose my SBS box to the internet or put in a 2 server firewalled solution. Has worked splendidly for 7 years and always gave me a way to go straight to the pop providers webmail if we had a massive outage with our server (thankfully never had to do).

With only 2 BB's I wanted to keep it as simple as possible until I am able to do a full SBS upgrade to a new environment which will likely not come for another 1-2 years.

Is it possible to run any version of BES (5.x possibly) that would support BB10 and run on SBS 2003? Really don't do anything at all with policies. If not than I'll just have to live in a BB 7 world.

OK, so looking at this compatibility chart for ms exchange, I see that BES 5.0.1-5.0.4 are all supported on my SBS 2003 SP2 platform.

Now the question is, do any of those BES versions support the Z10? If not, than I just have to put the whole Z10 thing in a box until our computing platforms have been upgraded to support it.

Z10 only works on BES 10

OK,

So, if Z10 only works on BES10, is there any BES10 solutions that would allow me to have it connect to my SBS 2003 environment? I'm thinking along the lines of running BES10 on a second box (I guess I could make that happen without to much trouble). Is that possible? If it was would that box have to be Windows server 2008 or above?

Trying to find the least expensive way. Of course I haven't even looked into the costs of Buying BES10. This may be a non-starter for my 2 BB environment once the costs start adding up.

BES 10 will install on a separate server or VM. for server OS look above at my compatable post link.

BES 10 is free but you have to pay for CALs which are about 100 per person. you can get a trail too to see if it is right for you. You can also manage more than just BB10 with BES 10. ios and droid can be managed.

Time to upgrade your SBS as I do believe its support is now gonzo.

BES10 is really more for Windows 2008 server and up, 2003 is simply too old for BES10.
