Default BES Updates

Please Login to Remove!

Hi...

Looking for a bit of help here. We currently run BES 4.0.1.12 and I'm looking to upgrade this to 4.0.7 which I have already downloaded. Can someone please answer the following:

Do I need to do anything to each of the BB's conected to my BES after upgrade, or will they just work?

The first step in the upgrade process tells me:

"To enable wireless synchronization of service books to BlackBerry handhelds, instruct users with BlackBerry Device Software version 4.0 or later to connect their BlackBerry handhelds to the BlackBerry Desktop Manager version 3.6.3 or later".

I'm not keen on having all of our users having to connect to the desktop manager to get their BB to work again after the upgrade, so you can understand my reservations about doing this!

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

It's been a few years since I upgraded to 4.0.7, but don't remember users having to connect to Desktop Manager. I wasn't going from 4.0.1 though.

Is this in preparation of going to BES or BESX5?

I think it's the OS they're really concerned with - it needs to be at a certain level and desktop manager allows you to ugrade them. If your oldest phone is an 8700, you're fine. If you have anything older than that, deal with that device (or for the love of god, upgrade that poor soul!)

Why stay at such and old version of BES anyway? Why not go to 4.1 or even up to 5.0? I understand alot of people like the older version (personally I miss my old 4.1.6), but why keep such an old version?
