Oh, then if I were you, I would revert back to last know good Operating System.
My first priority is always to get my BB up and running smoothly again, first.

How do I know if my crashes are memory card format related?
A memory card formatted in 4.2 can cause issues when inserted in a 4.5 device. See if you can copy the data from the card to the PC and then format the card again as posted above. Hopefully that will solve your reboot issues.[/QUOTE]
Hello John,
Could you explain how the memory issues related to formatting manifest?
I have a 8110 I upgraded from 4.3, so far, I have had zero issues. I have an 8310 I upgraded from 4.2. I had a few issues on this Curve, but thought it was related to my lack of free memory (thanks again for the thread on optimizing memory, that helped).

Perhaps, when you installed the 4.2.2 OS to your computer, you didn't delete the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader

Maybe but that wouldn't be the reason for my blackberry not showing up in the desktop manager.

New Info- With the memory card formatted and blank (everything erased) the blackberry doesn't restart.
Is there some file in my files that is restarting my blackberry?

Perhaps not, but you do need to do that.
For your BB not connecting as a device in DM:
-Does your BB show a charging symbol in/near the battery symbol on the homescreen of the blackberry?
-Are you connected via a USB cord DIRECT to the PC...not via a hub or monitor?

Simply deleting the file alone won't do it.
Now, unplug, reboot both the laptop AND the BB device (remove the battery while powered on), wait 30 seconds, replace and reboot.
Plug back in, connect to USB, open the DM... anything?

Are you using Vista OS on your laptop (and I did read you said your "old laptop")?
What version of Desktop Manager are you using... I would recommend getting version 4.2, Service Pack 2, withOUT the media manager.

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020)
You have several questions here.
1. The card and its files are the rebooting issue. I don't know why, I just know they are.
2. To reinstall an old OS you have to remove ALL newer OS's from the pc by using control panel >Add/Remove programs. Then install (if its not already) the OS desired and delete the vendor.xml again. Then you'll get a "downgrade."
3. If the device isn't connecting to DM use the menu in the top of DM and go to Connections and select the USB:<yourpin>

I doubt it's any of your media files. Did you have any apps that accessed the media card for anything? Like eOffice? Did it access the media card? MiniMoni? etc.?
