A user came up to me today and wanted to know why he lost all email prior to today and wanted me to fix it and get his emails back. After actually getting to play with the device today more than Enterprise activation! I was able to see how easy it was to delete emails. Touch the day heading in email and you get a pop-up menu that give you options. 1 which says Delete Prior. This most likely happened while in his pocket, it unlocks often while in his pocket too. I am wondering if there is a way to disable this pop-up menu all together? Or even change the options that are on the menu? Any help would be appreciated.

The behavior you are describing cannot be changed.
Clicking on a date always gives the option to 'Delete Prior'. (Not new with the Torch.)

I would recommend password protecting the device. It wouldn't "unlock" in his pocket. Thus preventing this issue from occurring again.

The pop-up menu in OS 6 is new, it has never been this easy to delete messages. You would have to select the date header, push the blackberry button and then choose delete prior in the menu. With OS 6 all you have to do is touch the date and the "mini-menu" pops up.

I've gotten into the habit of "screen locking" my Torch. This just locks the screen and isn't as annoying as the security lock the BES dictates. No pw needed, just press the lock button again to unlock..even when you hit a button.

It's much easier on the Torch to "mess" something up than my old 9000 when in my pocket.

To each their own, but personally, I would never have a device not password protected.

I would still have a password set on mine, however, the keyboard lock button does come in handy if you don't put the Torch into a holster.

Ditto on using password. There are a number of reasons to do so.

Personally, I know a lot of people that carry their smart phones in their pocket. That's what I don't get. But it's more like not getting why some people like liver than actually believing there's something wrong with it.

But password protection, trust us, you should do it. Set a reasonable time out, and adjust depending on whether you are at home/office versus traveling.

We tested the password restraints about a month ago. He (the CEO) among everyone else complained so much that after a meeting with the CEO he said turn the off. He realizes we can remotely wipe a device and he is OK with that. I will have to push more towards a password again to fix his "issue"

Tell the CEO that the bad guy who steals his BlackBerry will immediately remove the battery before you can wipe it, and then not replace the battery until he has the device out of signal range.

Or turn off the wireless radio, make a backup of the data and use ABC (Amber BlackBerry Converter) to access the backup file, or restore it to a spare BB. A password would prevent all of this.

Again, I would never use a device without a password.

I totally miss the days when there were strict rules on portable devices even laptop. I could say to everyone I don't care how much you complain deal with it. This is not a pharma company just a small cell tower business and I am the only IT person. I am here to make everything work... no matter what the cost! :(

Apparently someone at RIM was thinking along the same lines as you on this one.
The 'Delete Prior' option has been removed from the pop-up menu in OS 6.0.0.214.
You need to go to the Full Menu to perform this function now.
