I already downloaded and installed it on my Curve, but one problem. BB Maps will not load on to my device when I check mark it under the Apps Loader..why is that?? is this ATT's doing? It just doesn't show up on my device

Here's what a grep for "vendor" in the .alx shows:

<vendor>Research In Motion</vendor>
<fileset Colour="True" Java="1.0" series="8800|8300" _vendorID="102">

Well this was the first time I ever edited the file but I thought I did it correctly.

I have Cingular and my device shows that my vendor ID is 102, which is why I changed ALL of the themes for the 8800/8300 to vendor ID 102.

This is what the instructions said to do.

In any case I've got all the themes I listed above on my device now.

Ah okay, gotcha... I've never modified before but I had been reading someone's post who modified the O2 version to work... he/she just removed all the _vendorID="xxx" which had the same result (not checking vs matching all).

Thanks for sharing the modified .alx file lgreenberg. When I get my Curve this week I'll load it on as I want all the extra themes.

Technically the FAQ advises to REMOVE the vendorID check... you set it so that all the checks are looking for an AT&T phone. While this makes it work for your phone, it is probably best to delete the vendorID portion of the xml so that the .alx works on ALL vendors' phones and not just AT&T phones (i.e. share the wealth with those vodafone and O2 people).

AT&T (and some other carriers) hide it on the device to force you to pay for the TeleNav software they offer.

You can unlock this restriction by modifying the LBS.alx file inside the Loader Files directory. Search my posts for one called BBMaps and you'll find the instructions.

I suggested the mods sticky it, but they haven't.

Worse, the mods moved it so that 8300 can't easily find it and thus we have the same question over and over...

So it does the same thing?

With the vendor ID means it'll only work with that specific vendor's phone?

Without the vendor ID means it'll work with any phone?
