But another member tried the card, but tested a BETA. So are there ASSUMPTIONS the card will not work (fat32, newer SDHC format, etc.) due to software issues, or is this card a completely different format not compatible with the Pearl or any current generation MicroSD devices? Perhaps 83XX? Sorry, I'm in the market for a 2gb, but would gladly wait until summer for a 4gb to create a beefy 8100 or 83XX.
I think the card will not work for 2 reasons. The first being the OS. It will need to be upgraded to accept the 4 and 8 gb cards. The second is that SDHC is a totally diffrent technology. They might look the same on the outside but on the inside things are way diffrent that the sd cards we have today. So there might be a hardware issue there as well. Right now its anyones guess if RIM had thought about this problem and did something about it.

Has anybody been the guniea pig and tryed out the 4gb cards yet, I would love to know if they work as I use my pearl to play music all the time and hate changing out albums everyweek as my 2gb card is always full. I use the pearl as my media player more than my Ipod ...Its easier to carry with me and smaller, granted the nano's are smaller, but I just don't like carring a bunch of devices around.

Anyone know if the new sdhc 4gb cards wil work on the 8800. the 2gb ones work great. in my fantasies, the 8800 os was built with the 4gb in mind and is already sdhc compatible.

Just bought my 2gb tonight from BestBuy for $59.99, good stuff! Dont mean to go off topic but is there a way to go full screen in BB's media player? Or a different media player that can perhaps?

EDIT: Ok, searched and saw that I cant go full screen with the BB media player... but is there any other media players out there for the pearl that can? Or are we all stuck with this?

Glad this thread was bumped so I was able to read the replies to my earlier post! I bought a 2GB a couple of weeks ago and it works great! I have so much music, photos and other media on the card but I still have a ridiculous amount of space for more music, photos, etc. I used my.Pearl as my only camera on my recent trip and I took a LOT of pictures! I honestly don't think I could ever use up 4GB if it ever becomes available!

Anything over 2GB or anything that is SDHC will not work now nor EVER!

A hardware upgrade will most likely be needed for a SD device to support SDHC. I highly doubt that a firmware or software upgrade will allow an SD device to read SDHC.

I hope there will be a mobile update to support the 4 or 8 GB card. Just like the new Pearl OS from TMO!

I use a 2 gig card and have about 100 songs, 1 2hr. movie and about 7 other video clips. I just replaced my Palm and iPod with this amazing little device!

But back on topic. As a noob to the BB, I've been all over the 'net, and I've seen people SWEAR the 4 gig cards work. But from reading this thread, it seems the 4 giggers are difficult to come by. For now, my 2 gig card is more than sufficient- one of the movies I have on my BB is the 2 hr. "The 300"- just wanted to see if I could rip it and see it played (yes, and beautifully). I find the more space I have, the more I tend to fill it up with junk anyway. I'm not sure what'd I do if I was able to load 4 gigs anyway. I don't have a long commute to work, and the songs I have loaded is more than enough for my workouts at the gym. I have the 4 gig mini iPod, and I tend to listen to the same 10 songs; god only knows what kind of crap I'd load if I had the extra room. It is fun to watch South Park while on the treadmill though- and the envious looks of those running next to me, hehe

4 gigs works well on the Pearl. Make sure the version of the os can handle it. It has been mentioned in other threads here.

I got mine on Amazon for about $75+ USD or somewhere around there.

Default pics of 4GB SanDisk on Pearl 81000

Positive proof that the 4GB SanDisk SDHC works on a Pearl w/4.2.1.107.
