So what is everyone getting for battery life on their Curve? Is it better or worse then the device you migrated from? Have you seen the new battery improve after more cycles?

Mine:
-About 1.5 days (my uses include emailing, voice, and BT)

-I came from 8703e, and so far the 8703e had better battery life. (a good 2 days) I thought GSM was more efficient?

-I think I have seen some slight improvements from giving the battery some experience. (but then it could be only in my head)

I am coming from an 8800 and i think my battery life is far worse. My uses include email, voice and very occasional web access. Does anyone have any suggestions to increase my battery life? Or does anyone know if an extended battery is available yet?

My 8800 had far better battery life then my Curve! Now they both use edge and have the same processor, so I thought they'd be about the same, not at all. The battery for the 8800 is thicker then the Curves, there for it's keeping the phone juiced longer. In my book the 8800 had the best battery life out of any Blackberry that I've ever used!

I second that, the 8800 battery is awesome!

While the 8300 battery life does not seem to be quite as good as the 8800, I have yet to come home after a days work with less than 60% remaining. I use between 1500 and 2000 minuts a month and send and receive 40-60 emails on an average day.

I can't see where it will be a problem unless you are playing all day. I stick it on the charger when sleeping and don't worry about it.

I am sure they will come out with a higher capacity battery but they will add thickness. For the average and even above average user, I would think the OEM battery will do fine, especially after everyone is over the novelty and just use your device normally.

Well said Greg! Once the newness dies out, it'll stop being used as much and the battery should last longer. However I used my 8800 just as much as the Curve and the Battery life was better! Price we all have to pay for having a real sexy thin device! I'll deal with it, Curve fits my hand like a glove!

I agree - the 8800's battery is great. I ended many days with 75% battery life.

Likely you will end the day with 60% with the Curve. Not really worth getting a bigger battery for.

I had one for my 8700 and that thing was thick as a BRICK! Boy it would last for days. My problem is when I quit doing "things" that stoped me from sleeping, I no longer needed that big battery! <vbg>

Maybe Sedio will make a higher capacity battery that is the same size?

I pulled mine off the charger around 6ish last night? I'm down to 55% right now and I've had jive talk running most all of the day, not to much email, some bb messenger and a couple minutes talk. But I have been goofing with it alot SO that may be it. Plus I'm doing my first full charge and drain of the battery...

I came to BlackBerry from several months with my first smartphone...the Palm Treo 680, which has gotten slagged all over for it's abysmal battery life. I was even using a Seidio 2400mAh extended battery on it...because it never would last a 24-hour period without needing a charge. I did all the recommended drain/charge "chicken dance" routines...and it never made a dramatic change. That said...I know what crummy battery life is all about.

The 8300 has flat not impressed me with it's battery life...at all. I am not slagging it...just saying that I am good to get home after a 13-hour day with two bars on the meter left. I am not a "power user". I have three email accounts being pushed to my phone, I make/recieve 20-30 calls a day, I surf the internet very rarely...and hardly ever text message at all.

I must admit, though...that both the Treo 680 and the 8300 Curve are "streamlined" devices with slim/sexy/stylish housings...which force the use of "streamlined" batteries that are also slim/sexy/stylish. As far as I know, it is impossible to reduce the overall mass of a battery and still hold onto the same charge-holding ability as a larger one. So...in comparing the battery life of the 8300 to the 8800, 8700 and other BB devices...bear in mind that those had significantly larger batteries with higher capacities. We are basically giving up some battery life for a more stylish, and compact phone.

My 8300 battery lasts a hell of a lot longer than my 8830 (for the little time I that I had it). I went a full work day today and still had about 60% battery left. That's good enough for me.

No complaints here, mine has been pretty good. Off the charger at 6 this morning, pretty busy day call wise, some emails, a few text and pin messages...9:30 now.....65% battery.

First off, the battery technology used in BB batteries take a few recharge cycles to reach their peak efficiency. Since the 8300 has been out for less than a week, it's unlikely that many people have conditioned their battery to it's peak efficiency yet. Be patient.

As far as longevity is concerned, my 8800 was a champ. Lasted 2+ days of my usage with a lot of breathing room to spare. My Pearl wasn't awful, but certainly not great - netting me little more than a day between begging for juice. Thing is, I, like many of you, have mini USB cables, chargers and assorted battery charging thingies just about everywhere - so if I felt compelled, I could plug in my 8300 all day long...

Anyway, so long as the battery on my Curve gets me from wakeup to bedtime, it'll be fine for me... so far, so good.

Coming from a Pearl to a Curve I noticed significant improvement... but long gone are the days of the 7230...

Pearl - Charged 2x a day
Curve - Charge 1x a day
8700 - Charged every other day
7230 - Charged once a week

I have heard that after a couple of cycles of the new curve battery you should see some improvement. I cannot agree, I have seen none.

came from a treo 700p, and like everything else, the Curve is leagues better than that monstrosity. I haven't ran it all the way down but after one full day it was at about half, with lots of emailing and Gmaps

well, doesent the curve 'officially' have less talk time? so that would mean it simply has less battery capacity. I dont think RIM is trying to play it off that it does have the same of the older devices.

I came from an 8700, and yes the 8300 has way less battery life, but still plenty good. I would think you could actually get two full days of constant email, maybe 3 if you adjust some of hte brigtness settings.

I rember getting the Motorolla V551, and you had to adjust the brightness, etc on it. I am going to go through all the settings on my Curve and see if I can get some benefit.

I actually can report a solid 48-hours out of a charge (down to 15%) with moderate to heavy use after a little over a week of overnight charging. So, it would seem that the 8300's battery does, with time, hold a charge a little better.

For most if it will last 18 hours is plenty good enough. I used 1975 minutes last month and do alot of email and never put it on charge, at the end of the day, without 50% or more left. If the user puts it on the charger before going to bed, you should not have any problem unless your whole life revolves with palying with your 8300! <vbg>
