Red face 9530 on ATT service - Q's

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all - If I buy a 9530 from ebay and pop in my ATT Sim card - will the device function as an ATT phone with its carrier options or will I be stuck with Verzion's options, splash screen, etc?

Also - how good have the updates been on this since its inception?

Any more lags or issues with its functionality?

Thanks!

You will still have Verizon's splash screen.

@fkjr2 -- I've been using the 9530 on ATT for about 8-9 months now.

You will need to follow the directions in this link to make the browser and full BIS data work:
http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...-t-mobile.html

Meanwhile, yes, it is slower on EDGE, but the screen is absolutely great, can't be beat.
The typing is good once you get used to it--I did.

Upgrade the device to the latest .151 OS.

do you think its a huge speed difference over the Bolds 3g and wifi?

I do a fair amount of emails - not too much web browsing. The occasion Google search, etc.

I dont want to take a step back but I do like the concept of the Storm

just be advised that coming from a bold to a storm there is a longer learning period. it does take a little getting used to the typing. one issue you might and will have with the 9530 that i had with mine being that i was on ATT is that the EDGE to edge connection the only OS that held it 100% off the time was the orgnial OS that came with it. there are some OS out there that people will say it will run better and better but i have tried them all and having a cell tower behind my building and still dropping connection tells me that its still an issue no matter how new the upgrade is. thats why i sold my 9530 and went with the vodafone 9500 which runs perfect.

There's a VERY big speed difference on the browser. For email, not a biggie.

But if you not a patient man for getting the EDGE and browser tied down, don't try it.

I've tried and used each and every OS release and beta for the Storm that's come around, and from .112 and up, they only get better. OS .151 is great, very few issues and EDGE is steady.

But very true, the 9500 is much better on EDGE.

i just spent 10 weeks in Greece with my unlocked storm. i have tmob and enabled the world-class international add-on before i left the states.

so when i touched down in Europe, the fone went to 3G (look @ signal in pics):

Greece:

UK:

with simple observation (no stopwatches or anything), i didn't notice dramatic speed differences between my EDGE connection in the states with my 3G connection in Greece. either one was pretty fast.

You'll most likely have the issue of it bouncing between edge and EDGE once you put in the wap.cingular APN setting and attempt to use any TCP application (i.e. Pandora, Privus Mobile, etc.). The best way to do this i've found is to use the .151 or .173, and then load Shrink-A-OS and swap the radio to the .90 or .109. .90 seems to be the best at holding EDGE, but .109 has much better strength. .151 would not hold EDGE once i added the APN in there.
