I found the answer!!!, and it wasn't too far from "stating the obvious".

I found a clue via Google on an old posting with this problem. The fix was open calendar, go to options, then go to your account, and put a tick in the check box for "display reminders".

Somehow in the update that feature was changed. I have no idea how, but the alarms now work!

after accepting the official 7.1 upgrade, mobile hotspot works for me (using my at&t service). my at&t services include tethering and mobile hotspot
