Default Mobile numbers in BES

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

I am trying to get my BlackBerry users' mobile numbers recorded in the BES due to a mobile number audit that I am facing. Some of the users do not show the mobile number in the BES and I am unable to enter this information manually even if known.

Is there a way I can get this information stored/recorded in the BES?

Thanks,

-Jorge-

When that happens to me, I have to manually add the user's number to their SIM. Then it shows up in BES.

Di,

Thank you for replying! I have tried that and sometimes it works and other times it does not. As most of us have it, some of these users are not local to me; they are all over the world.

Would you have another solution for me? I have also tried doing the Enterprise Activation without wiping out the device and that did not work well. Let me know.

Thanks!

Default Phone Number & SIM ID

The phone number is a free fromat field on the SIM. Even when populated can be changed by the end user. The more reliable field should be the SIM ID. This does have an issue in that devices with handheld firmware before4.2.2 will have the SIM ID with the nibbles reversed. Frimware 4.2.2 (i.e. 8300) you should be OK. The SIM ID will be stored in pairs of digits in the upper and lower 4 bits of a byte on the SIM. The result is alternate digits need to be swaped to get the correct SIM ID. You will also need a BES that can display the SIM ID BES 4.1.3 and later are capable of that.

You will need to translate SIMID to phone number outside the BES.

Most user's wont even dream about editing their phone number. IF at times that this doesnt populate on the handheld (and the BES manager wont be able to read off that), I would call the provider and have them re-send the provisioning on their end. It may take quite some time for it to show up. Once the handheld sees it, it will be seen by BES and then you can use the reporting tool to export the data.

If it isnt that many lines that are missing the numbers, call the provider with the SIM and they will give you the numbers. Enter it into your inventory and then ask them to send the updates to the handheld. You will have it in inventory and then will show up in the BES

Have you verified this info? You may be right...I have done it with USA Wireless networks and I am sure if they can do it, I dont see why other's cannot. Using SIM technology

We just ended up telling our users to set it themselves. For our users in Europe/Asia, when we asked the carrier to populate it from their end, we got the "blank stare" kind of response, so it wasn't worth the trouble to keep trying to explain it to them, etc.

What also works is to "reprovision" the account, that will surely send the update to the SIM and the handheld. It has worked for me here in the states from TMO and UK for o2 and voda.

On the offending handhelds....
options: advanced options: service book:
delete Desktop [SYNC] then undelete.

At least this is what we were told to do by TMO, and it worked.
