Default Replacement Pearl coming tomorrow - easy to switch?

Please Login to Remove!

I'm getting a replacement Pearl tomorrow and was wondering if the switch is as easy as I think it will be?

My plan is...

New Pearl:

1. Do one last Outlook sync w/my existing Pearl to ensure anything new on it has been updated to my PC.

2. Activate the new Pearl

3. Sync it to Outlook using DM

4. Add 3rd party SW (DM/OTA)

5. Add my BT devices

After a few days to verify no issues I'll likely update to 4.5 as well.

Anything else required?

Old Pearl:

I'm going to set PW retries to a low number and then intentionally enter the wrong password enough times to force it to wipe itself clean of all my personal data. Is that sufficient to ensure nothing of mine is left behind on it - all emails, texts, call logs, and all sync'd Outlook data is removed, right?

Also, I'm assuming that when it wipes emails off the Pearl, that won't force a delete of those emails on the server side, right?

Any problems w/my approach?

Just use the Switch Device wizard. It rocks! For third party apps see:

How do I backup my Third Party Applications on my BB? - BlackBerryFAQ

To clean your BB just hit Menu>options>Security>General Settings>menu>Wipe Handheld.

If you really want to be sqeaky clean wipe using JL_Cmdr and then reload the OS.

Good Luck and enjoy your new device!

3rd party apps will move over with the Switch Device Wizard.

Thanks...so the Switch Device feature actually works as advertised? I'm generally leery of those types of migration tools...stuff seems to get lost or misplaced during the transfer.

If it doesn't do it right or what you want just backup the old device and restore to the new but you will have to follow the link on 3rd party apps. I have been amazed by this little tool! The wizard has worked flawlessly for me!

Good Luck and let's hope for a smooth transition! Don't forget to update your BIS site with new PIN IMEI and resend service books (if you use BIS).

Thanks...I wasn't aware I'd need to do that, assumed it would be done by VZW automatically.

New Pearl arrived - yay!

Wait...it's pink!?

Called VZW...another day to get a silver one sent out. Considered switching housings, but worried VZW would get confused and it would cause problems...

<sigh>
