I used to text heavily on my cell phone. It would start suggesting full words after I typed the first few letters. I could just pick the word and keep going. I didn't have to type the whole word.

Is SureType supposed to do this too? I have been typing the entire word each time. It does usually select the write letters as I go.

Am I missing a setting or is this just the way SureType works?

it is just the way suretype works. I am one of the few who actually enjoys suretype

The good thing about suretype is that it gets better as it learns

Suretype is NOT predictive text. It does not guess what work you are typing. It bases the word on what keys you have pressed and does not assume anything.

as has been stated by many, many users here, SureType does very well at predicting your words. the built-in dictionary is very expansive and the software does its job very well. doing its job better than other predictive text entry applications, SureType can actually track the frequency of your word acceptance and become more exact. aside from a handful of three letter words, there is little correction needed once the device learns your patterns.

the system can learn from you in as little as a week, but you must have an interest in learning from it, too.

I think you're misinterpreting NJBB's comment. SureType does a great job of figuring out what you meant to type after you've hammered out all of the letters. The original post and NJBB were referring to systems that: (1) predict what you intend to type before you've finished pressing all of the keys, and (2) allow you to select a predicted word(s) without having to type it all out. As good as SureType is (and I have no complaints), it does not "predict" any words that do not have the exact number of characters that you typed.

reading the OP again, and NJ's reply - you may be right. it would appear the OP is descrbing something akin to iTAP or another auto complete feature.

i may have reacted too quickly and strongly to this particular response, but i hold to my statements regarding SureType and how the user needs to interact with it. there are too many detractors here who will confess to limited time with the text entry method, but still avow it is the worst feature ever. it is that mentality to which my sentiment is directed.

Wow. I didn't realize SureType was such a hot issue.

I was referring to exactly what WNO and penk said. Does it have the ability to predict the end of a word before you finish it? Apparently not. I understand its base purpose but I was wondering if there was some setting I was missing that would activate an iTap like feature. I thought the combination of SureType plus iTap would further reduce typing.

SureType has been quite accurate for me. Although maybe I have only been using a Jr. High vocabulary.

I think Suretype is -great- for what it does, but I really do wish it would start listing the rest of the word ahead of time. It saves a huge amount of time when sending a lot of e-mails.

It seems like it should be able to do this. Clearly it has a good idea of the word you're typing in...
