I'm new to Blackberry's so bear with me. I recently went on holiday to the Dominican Republic expecting to be able to use my BB to email and IM. I had turned off my push email prior to going but had left the data connection on. I was unable to use anything other than MMS and SMS. Had I done something wrong or could it have just been that the data service wasn't available there.

I go to the States in a few weeks and really need to be able to use email and IM whilst there so any help would be much appreciated.

I am on Orange at home and it also went on Orange whilst in the Dominican Republic. I did contact my provider when I returned home and the only explanation they could give me was that data probably wasn't supported there but I just wanted to ask to see if there could have been something else I had done wrong.

Perhaps Orange (local) forgot to provision international roaming. From their web site (Orange Dominican Republic) it looks like they support 3G and the BlackBerry (as they sell the 9700). Of course my Spanish is a bit rusty (can't read a word) so I couldn't get much information. In any event, I don't think it was anything you could have done.
