Exclamation Deceptive Advertising...Tethering is for Business Customer Only on Verizon!!

Please Login to Remove!

It clearly states in the personal section of their website that the 7130e can be used for tethering; to go one step further the documentation also states the procedure for tethering with no disclaimer. After installing the software and following the directions it did not work. I called data wireless technical support to be told that this "feature" is for business clients only.

This seems like a very deceptive practice on the part of verizon!!! Hay anybody else been told that personal accounts can not tether; or better yet has anyone had tethering added to a personal account.

I can't answer Northern Ivy's question, but something has always bothered me. Why is it called tethering? According to my research...

tether

noun: a rope or chain used to tie especially an animal to a post or other fixed place, usually so that it can move freely within a small area

verb - tethered

Just wondering.

well,
I went to the verizon store in the Burlington Mall in MA and cute little Wendy hooked me up. I get home and my phone works fine. I just tried the tethered option, and in fact I am sending this from my laptop via the tethered 7130e.

Did you call customer service and talk to them? My experience with verizon has always been that customers service is the key to getting anything done.

[edit] sorry, forgot to say, I am a personal account.

I would check back again with someone else. I'd imagine ANYONE willing to pay the additional cost for that capability will be allowed to. There's no difference I'm aware of regarding features/options for the device based on the type of account you are.

This just isn't true. As Geek NJ said, call again and this time call customer service directly not tech support.

You do not need to be a B2B at all. I am not and I got it working.

It comes from hooking up a cable (ie the "chain or rope") to a cell phone (ie the "animal") to the computer (ie the "post").

With bluetooth, well should it be called tether, who knows.

You have to pay an additional 15$/month for the tethered ability.

What about tethering at non-EVDO speed (1xRTT)? I've been trying to use the modem to dial #777 on VZW and I keep getting username/password invalid. Does anyone know if having the unlimited data plan includes non-EVDO tethering?

Default Finally Verizon agreed to taking my money

Given the feedback on this forum I made the determination to just call back customer service and ask for the service. Which after 25 mins on hold the service was added.

I appreciate the help; and I guess Verizon is not deceptive but lacks uniform knowledge.

I don't think I've ever seen a company that I'd consider to have "uniform knowledge" when it comes to a new product rollout.

In extremely rare cases they do but not often. Even if it is a uniform knowledge, you have to pretty much expect any CSR you reach will still mess things up. For the most part you have to use small words because they get confused easily - just my experience w/ANY company and their customer service.
