I'm wondering if there are a few things known to anyone that can cause the service books to either go bad, need to be replaced, or just generally get corrupted. I have someone who is asking me why we need to resend the service books on so many Blackberry units, and my response was, 'to fix things'....well, that's not what they were looking for. I always thought there were so many possibilities that it wasn't worth really looking in to, but I figured I would throw this out there to see if anyone has some definite answers.

I know what they do (well, some of them anyway), but are there a few things to look at that would cause them to go bad? Please correct me if I'm wrong, but CMIME (mail) and CICAL (calendar) are the two biggest problems. When you send a new service book from the BES, these are the ones that get sent to the device. Of course, most devices are going to be different, but why would these two go bad so often?

When I asked this question to an intermediate at RIM they told me that it's data packets from the RIM network. Too much gets pushed and corrupts the service book. I'm sure there are other reasons, bad data possibly or it just corrupts.

When you push service books from the BES only those removed/deleted are replaced. If all were replaced the user would always go through a slow sync because of the Desktop[SYNC] service book.

Don't tell users it's a RIM network problem, just say it's bad data packets or something, that should give them what they need.

would there be any benefit in reinstalling / upgrading the os on the device ? I have one user who has had to have his cmime deleted and resent 3 times in the last 4 weeks !!

OS upgrade might help, or might have a bad phone.
