Anyone else have a similar issue?
Same thing happened to me. You need to do a battery pull.

I downloaded the trial a couple days ago and liked it so much that I purchased it today. It's a great little program.

Cool! Thanks for the help! I just did that and got it working. Now to play around with the options bit and see if I like or not.

Appreciate the help!

Default Can't Install!

I have been using v1.49 for some time now on my 8830. I did an OTA install of the trial, then bought from Handango a while back. Unfortunately, after switching devices I can't get anything installed. The OTA link no longer works. I tried downloading a trial from Handango, but Application loader reports back "No additional applications designed for your device were found." I also tried kynan's "convert to OTA" method by creating my own jad file. I followed those instructions exactly, but then when I pointed my Blackberry browser to the jad file I only got a text-rendering of that file on my screen (it didn't treat it as an install). Can anyone point me in the right direction? Then, after I get the software installed, can I use my old activation code? Thanks!

To BByMel - I just read through this entire thread. Good stuff, and a great tool. Unfortunately I'm bellied up to the bar with the other members of the "Need support for Level 1 Messages" crew. I'm in a corporate environment, and I have several IT teams that would love to use this tool to enable their BB's as a pager. Without Level 1, it's a no-go!

Hi,

finally found a support thread for this tool

Since a few days I am using BB Alerts and I have to say that I am pretty happy as it significantly improves the standard notification options provided by RIM.

However, I stumbled across a few glitches (I am using a 8310 curve):

- LED notification stops when device enables build-in security: e.g. Blackberry is in (unencrypted) standby mode. An email/SMS comes in and LED notification starts. But once the security timer encrypts the device, LED notification stops. Albeit LED notification works once the device is encrypted and an email comes in. Therefore I think the status change between encrypted/unencrypted is the source of this problem.

- Download via Handango.com does not work (see also this post). I had to contact the author to get an OTA download link. I am using the recent Desktop Manager software and as far as I know there are now new updates yet.

- Java exception error during startup. Had to start BB alerts manually after reboot.

- Last but not least: Documentation is not good at all. I had to figure out several things by trial and error. IMHO still room for improvement.

But as mentioned earlier: so far I am happy.

I was wondering if the you have any hints regarding issue #1.

Regards
Wuffy

I think that any "change" to the status of the BB does that. By encrypt, I am assuming you mean either keyboard lock or device lock but even if not, I read it as being a status change of sorts.

What I mean is, touching any key or the trackball, taking it out of the holster, doing pretty much anything will cause BB Alerts to stop alerting. I believe somewhere in this lengthy thread that users requested more persistent alerting, and BByMel did respond saying he'd have a look at it. However, I would imagine that the alert being persistent until a specific action being performed (e.g. sms alert persists until the sms has been read, regardless of what else the device might be doing) isn't something easy to program. I think I suggested something along the lines that if BBAlerts uses the system event logs more, that it might work but I am no programmer. For example, if BBAlerts' used a method the same as the internal applications use to determine if an email has been read, a call has been checked, sms has been read, voicemail has been checked, etc. before turning off the notification LED, that this would be a great enhancement to an already great application.

In my case, I use the stock RIM holster where the BB faces inwards and the LED is covered. So when holstered, for the most part I cannot see it flashing, and when I pull the BB out, the alert stops from the act of the BB waking up. This has been liveable for me though, because 1) I will have other indications that I have actions to do because of the BB's internal notifications (message envelope with an asterisk, for example), and 2) I also use Webmessenger Alerts in conjunction with BBAlerts, which generate popups to remind me of calls missed, emails to be read, and so on.

But I'm still waiting on the Orange LED "all is well" indicator.

I read through the posts and this seems to be a recurring problem. I downloaded BB Alerts yesterday from Handago, I have an 8703e, I'm using the Zen theme (not sure if that matters) but it does not recognize sms messages or voicemail. Anyone else been able to get it to work?

Sooo....has anyone who has recently installed BBAlerts been able to get proper LED color notification for voicemail and SMS on their 8100?

If so, which OS and which carrier?

Bug I found: after the alert is reset (i.e. you read your sms and the LED will stop blinking the chosen color), the status light (usually green telling you you have reception) stops blinking. The only way I've found to reset it so far is to send an SMS, make a call, or send an email. Is there a way to make this start back up automatically. Sorry if my description doesn't make sense...

The green LED status light for coverage is... well, iffy.

While admittedly I have not operated my BB without BBAlerts (it was the first 3rd Party App I installed the day I got my 8800; I have seen the non-blinking of the coverage indicator. I usually switch it off, save, then switch it on, and save in Options -> Screen/Keyboard.

That said, I have seen it numerous times where even though it didn't blink for 15 minutes straight, it suddenly starts all on it's own, without calls, emails or sms, etc.

I can go to sleep without the LED blinking (yet have 3 - 5 bars), and wake up in the morning with my BB happily blinking green at me.

Is there any way to set up different alerts for different e-mails? I want an audible alert + blink + buzz for my work e-mail, a blink for my personal e-mail and nothing for my third e-mail address. Right now I am getting an audible alert for every single e-mail I get.

Do not have time to read all the thread but Level 1 is working fine for me. I get a nice unique sound and blinking led whenever a level 1 message arrives. I am using v1.49 on an 8800c. I do, however have a problem with the display of the Level 1 message title in the BB alerts screen. It seems to pick a random email. Maybe that is the problem you refer to but I just go to mail and look for the ! to see what came it as Level 1.

Read a few pages back, if you want. BByMel, Klotar, and I have came up with a solution for this. We've dubbed it (something like) "The Orange No New Alerts Light" ;)

/returns to patiently waiting for the orange....

Is there anyway to have the standard green LED blink when there are no new Alerts?

Ever since I setup BBAlerts, there is no Green LED indicator when I have no new Alerts/Messages.

Does the application have to be running in the background in order for the alerts to work?

Does this use any additional battery power?

Any way to get the program to auto-start on boot-up?

8830 with ver. 1.49 and I get the uncaught exception error everytime i re-boot my phone

Yes, it needs to be running in the background to work.

Yes, it uses battery power, as does any other background application. However, it's very negligible -- all it does is monitor logs and blink the led.

Version 1.49 autostarts on bootup for me. I tried 1.60 this morning as a matter of fact, and it didn't start automatically (rather perhaps it tried, to but permissions weren't set yet and it locked up my BB). Subsequent reboots produced no more error messages but it also did not auto-start on bootup, so I downgraded back to 1.49 which is performing flawlessly, as usual, on my 8800.

I suppose if I don't post the link I'll get lynched, so here's the OTA for 1.60:
