Default Who is passing on VZW Pearl to wait for Curve?

Please Login to Remove!

I have an old beat up 8703e, and was excited about a new toy in a few weeks (Pearl 8130), but after stopping in at ATT to play with the Pearl...

Well, I think I may be waiting out VZW for the Curve, anyone else have any thoughts?

Did I say my BB 8703 is getting a bit long in the tooth...

I guess it all depends on the reasons why you didn't like the AT&T Pearl...

Is it because you don't like SureType? I will tell you that it takes a couple of days, a week maybe, before you get used to it after using full QWERTY, but then you'll fly.

Other than that, there isn't a hell of a lot difference between the two. Well, except for the size and form factor in which the Pearl wins in my opinion.

The new Pearl is going to be the best BB VZW has offered to date. If you can live with SureType it will be sure to please.

It's on my wishlist.

Actually I'm waiting for my VZW contract to expire so I can move to AT&T. Tired of waiting for new BBs with VZW and only one device has world connectivity.

I am a bit concerned with the smaller keyboard offering on the Pearl. How is it viewing emails and web pages onthe smaller screen?

Does anyone know if either the pearl or the curve are going to work world wide?

The Pearl won't be, but their had been some speculation a few months back that the CDMA Curve would be a world phone like the 8830. I guess we have to wait and see unless someone knows something different.

Dumping Verizon and going to T-Mobile Curve. I'll give them the 15 days to make sure I'm happy with the service, but if all is well, I'm out. I'm just sick of the waiting game. I was excited when the Pearl came out and figured I could wait for that to come to Verizon, but now that is has and I see what the other carriers have, I want that and I don't want to wait another year.

There has never been anything official or even rumors from reliable sources, so no.

I consider Jibi a pretty reliable source and he says early 2008. Until the Pearl is released that's the best you're gonna get.

I am but then again I pass on all VZ devices, as they are late and lock out features.

That's what sucks when you are with a CDMA carrier like VZW or Sprint.
I am with Sprint, and love their service and feel they are alot better than VZW and their sky high prices and locking down features.

But it sucks when you have to wait over a year sometimes for some phones to be available for a CDMA network.

Maybe when my Sprint contract is up I may just switch to AT&T or T-Mo...

It won't be either. There were initial murmurs that both would be, a la 8830, but those have since been removed for both devices (due to size and cost limitations). Consumer vs Business, once again.

Majority of the world are GMS, hardly any CDMA.

I love SureType, the Pearl 2 form factor, and the camera/bluetooth stereo/external MicroSD slot make this the end all in my book.

I played with a Curve at Best Buy the other day...looked and felt kinda cheap IMO. The Pearl is the form factor winner, and the features winner...and in SoCal, Verizon's service is the best bar none.

Do I hate waiting on new phones? Sure. Do I want to switch to another carrier for that? No way. I'd rather actually have a conversation on a late model phone than have a coolest new phone and be pissed I can't make a single uninterupted call on it.

This is, perhaps, the most important point of all. My disclaimer is that your coverage is based on your own experiences, but I travel a lot. AT&T [Cingular, whatever] had the worst "sounding" service, and the most dropped calls of any I ever tried (over time includes AT&T, Sprint, Cingular, Verizon). I chose to stick with CDMA because:

- GSM phones buzz my computer when they're receiving data and the phone is anywhere nearby
- My call quality is better with CDMA
- My data speed is noticeably faster with CDMA
- My overall coverage is better with CDMA

Downside is I have to wait for the best "new" phones. I have come to terms with that. My clients don't care what my phone looks like, they want to talk with me without interruptions and call backs.

My Sprint contract is up in September '08, and I think I will be making the same decision to go with another provider. I might just go ahead and pay full retail for the Pearl next month (I can always recoup a % of the costs by selling on ebay in Sept 08) instead of re-upping my Sprint contract. Sprint's phone selection is just not up to par and its getting annoying.

I a gadget freak, so I will get the Pearl to hold me over till the curve comes out and get that as well. I have a t-mobile pearl that I use for work and once you get used to it, it's not bad at all. I carry it more then my personal 8703e becuase of the form factor. I can say however that when I use my pearl I am less likely to type out long responses like I do on my 8703e, but just having the ability to not carry all that bulk is worth it.
