Default Latest OS: 8530 5.0.0.756/5.0.0.459 (Multilanguage)

Software For BlackBerry® Curve(TM) 8530 smartphone

BlackBerry Handheld Software v5.0.0.756 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 5.0.0.756
Consisting of:
Applications: 5.0.0.459
Software Platform: 4.2.0.201
File name: 8530AMEA_PBr5.0.0_rel756_PL4.2.0.201_A5.0.0.459_Sp rint_L.P.exe
File size: 97.62MB

https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...BB765225CE8C0E

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's device:

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device

Release notes are produced by RIM (Research in Motion manufacturers and sells the BlackBerry) and are sent to the carriers. Very, very infrequently they are released to us....

fixes I have found:
Issues with screen staying black after ending a phone call is gone
Over sized icons are fixed/adding new folders do not produce odd shaped icons
Battery life is improved
After sending a reply to a new message the new message icon does not stay on the screen
When switching between themes the colors of the previous theme does not remain in certain menu/app screens.

Remaining bugs:
Themes with changeable background on the App screen have a problem keeping the picture for that saved and sometime revert to all white.
Lower OS themes for like the 8520 that may have worked before do not fully work now

So how does this work for a Mac? The instructions are for a PC. Is there a separate page to download this file on a Mac?

Well....followed all instructions and went well, phone didnt brick and took update well.
3rd line in "about" v5.0.0.459 (Platform 4.2.0.201)
So, even though I dont see "5.0.0.756" anywhere in the "About" screen, did it still install the updated OS since the other version numbers match the sticky? BTW...the entire process only took about 30mins total. Thanks.

5.0.0.756 is the App Version (I don't know what that is). Press and hold the Alt button, then press E, A, C, E. You'll see it there.

MUCH faster reboot time with this OS update! Seems to have fixed all the glitches that were mentioned in the earlier posts as well. Good find and thanks for posting.

If you go to Options-Advanced Options-Network Update, it will download the update as well. I am using Wifi and it is quite a fast download.
