Yes it is suppose to manually sync but not instantaneously. And only for labels and stars not "mark as read"

One last thing to add you can manually download the plug-in at

mobile.blackberry.com/gmail
mobile.blackberry.com/google

What's really annoying on tmobile --> when you resend service books there is not mention of the app. Everytime I did it on at&t I always got that link.

I had the same issue of the plug-in not working (even after deleting/readding my GMail account in BIS). I'm running OS .423 and plug-in .30 (preinstalled). This is what I did to make it work:

1. Log into BIS, delete my GMail account and wait a couple minutes for it to sync with my BB.
2. Resend service books and wait for them to sync with my BB (another couple minutes).
3. Pull the battery on my BB, wait 30 seconds and reinsert.
4. From my BB, launch the BIS email integration web site, log in and re-add my account (this could probably be done via the normal web site as well). Wait a couple minutes for sync to occur.
5. Resend service books and wait for sync.

Now... I don't know how many of these steps are actually necessary or where in the process the enhanced plug-in options appeared, but once all five steps were done, I sent myself a test email from another account, highlighted it in my BB (under my gmail.com inbox, not the all-inclusive messages screen), hit the menu key and the enhanced options were available, as was the enhanced options in the email options screen.

I never got an email with a PIN, nor entered any PIN anywhere except to unlock my BB upon restart. Strange, but I'm a happy camper now! Good luck to the rest of you... I hope this works for someone else out there.
