Default Tethering With The 8900 - Success!

Please Login to Remove!

I hope this info is useful.

I have been able to get the 8900 to tether to my HP Mini netbook, wired and bluetooth.

The speeds are not great, but there is connectivity.

I used this guide to set up the connections:

I wouldn't expect the speeds to be great, it's EDGE after all ;)

I must be doing something wrong. I get error 692 meaning hardware failure. I am using my T-Mobile website as user id and password. Is this correct information to set up?

Default 8900 As a Modem Problem With Set Up.

Hi, I am trying to set up the 8900 as a modem, When I get to the step to enter the APN for T-Mobile in the Standard Modem Properties screen, the Change Default Preferences box in the lower right is grayed out so I can not enter the string shown in the steps. I am signed in as the Administrator.
Any ideas how to ungray the box? I am running Vista Home Premium.
Thanks!!

Try going through this FAQ. Using BlackBerry As Modem - BlackBerryFAQ There is Vista specific info there.

For TMO use wap.voicestream.com as the APN and leave the login user and password blank. Also, the dialup number is *99#.

I got it working on the first try with my 8900 Curve via USB connection. The FAQ I used stated that the BlackBerry Device Manager must be running to make a connection.
