Default Why bother with other carrier's FW?

Please Login to Remove!

I upgraded to this release via Desktop Manager.

Why bother going to all the trouble to get a possibly bogus copy from a dodgy website?

On the plus side, I got ~ 50Mb free memory after upgrading

31.4 MB after battery pull on .244. I have a lot of programs on my Bold. Down to 18.7 MB after 5 days use. The low memory after 5 days use does not seem to effect operations though. On .224, I was not able to do voice dialing after 2 days use. Received message that memory was too low. Do not have that issue with .244 even when down to 18.7 MB.

I updated to this an my battery life is complete shit now. I left this morning at 9am with 100% battery life. Around 10am I went on a call for an hour or so on my bluetooth, went in and out of 3G, to EDGE, to GPRS, back to 3G. By about 1pm or so, my battery was down to 40%. By 3pm, it was yellow and I had to plug it in. I read about 10 e-mails, wrote 4-5, and talked another 20 minute or so. So an hour and a half in calls and some e-mail's almost completely killed my battery. Only problem is that in order to downgrade, I have to go through hell and back getting a new BES activation and explain why I have to re-connect to the server again for the 2nd time in a few weeks. Ugh.

Where do you check the available memory and how do you go about getting more it back....

clear cache of broswer
remove applications you dont use, and make sure when not using applications they are closed and not running in the background

For Bold users, does it still wipe your ring profiles when you update an OS? It would always do that on my Pearl and it would take me a while to go through and reset ringtones/volume for every profile.

To the person asking about Mass Storage Mode when you plug in, I have the same problem, but I'm on the original OS that AT&T shipped. Maybe 1/3 times it will actually pop up the option and recognize it as a "storage device". The rest of the time I'd have to use Roxio. Not sure what the problem is.

There's a couple of threads floating around talking about the Calendar and Today Themes after upgrading to this OS? Is this a known issue? For example...

1) My email and facebook calendars are no longer showing in my BB calendar, even after re-sync'ing
2) My "Today" panel in a theme I'm using (iBerry) is empty because of this. Even after re-installing the theme.

Are others having this issue as well?

.
No it doesn't - not restoring your data after you wipe the phone does however.

I disagree.

On my Bold, every time I upgrade the OS I restore the data, and the ring tones have changed to the defaults, including the vibration settings. I have to reset them. I think it is mostly with the later OS versions, since I don't recall that happening a few months ago.

This version is horrible. I'm on AT&T and I've tried installing it three times. Every single time, I get a bunch of unhandled exceptions every time I unlock the phone and my VM indicator will not turn off even after multiple battery pulls and installations.

It's not horrible. Infact it's the most stable OS to date.

You are trying to install it on 8800, but it's for Bold 9000.

So.. my 9000 is still running .162 on Rogers. I've tried three times now to run this .247 upgrade and each time it fails.
Battery-pulls, resets, etc..
I'm even getting a database fail on a backup from the BB Desktop without upgrade.

WTF?
I'm not giving this another try yet because one of these times I'm afraid it'll just brick completely.

You need to get rid of all the visual voicemail files. One easy way is to go to the OS directory in Windows, find the net.rim.vvm.alx file, edit it to change the "series=true" to false, then rerun the application loader in DM, unchecking the VVM option first, and you'll get your VM notifications back. Probably you could just delete the vvm modules in the BB, but I'm not sure about that. Someone else will have to chime in here on that one.

Some day in the next decade, and probably before the Cubs win their first World Series in over 100 years, AT&T will put through the service books for visual voice mail and the problem will be solved.

I have been running this OS for a week, was only a vew releases behind prior to this one - I forget exactly which.

Anyhow, I am convinced that this release is draining the battery faster, I have had numerous call drop-outs every day, and my Wi-Fi connection at home is not always available anymore... had none of these issues prior to the upgrade.

I'm not sure that I will downgrade, but I am eager for the next release to be made available and I'll jump straight onto it.

I wish that RIM would provide release notes so that we have some idea of what changes with each release.
