Then do as penguin instructed, have her unlock it. Then have her figure out what letters correspond to the numbers she believed it was. When it is connected to the PC, then enter the LETTERS.

If the password was believed to be 1234 the letters would be wers. If the password was 2121 the password would be ewew and so on...

If you just got the phones there shouldn't be that much on there, just do the password wrong again and start fresh.

so if we have one last try, you guys would suggest connecting to via the computer and typing in the corresponding letters right? if it gets whiped, i'm dead! But i'm not understanding why it wouldnt work via the phone?

Let's be honest with ourselves here. If the phone does get wiped, you can't be mad at anyone but yourself. We all tried to help you, you insisted it was numbers, you insisted you pressed the ALT key when entering the password, and we still continued to help you troubleshoot the issue. Then, you threw a curve ball and said it was your girlfriend's device. That you didn't know if she was or wasn't pressing the ALT key.

Something doesn't really add up here to me. I think there are a few lessons to learn here. First and foremost, make backups of your data, your girlfriend included. Also, do not mess with someone else's device. Third, be up front when asking for help and give all the details in the beginning to avoid confusion and wasting everyone's time.

i was trying to not have to explain the whole situation and just the facts. do you really want to know that i'm at work and my girlfriend is home freaking out that she lost all of her contacts because i said lets move all your contacts to outlook then from outlook to your new phone. you can try to think that you are columbo and that you are preventing me from breaking into someone elses device, but it just is not the case. I'm not asking you how to break into a phone man, i'm asking you why the password is not working after we installed the desktop software and connected it. i'm reaching out for help, while i'm at work and she is home. i'm sorry that i did know how she input her password, i have an iphone and not a blackberry. as soon as she got back to me i corrected it, like 5 minutes later man. i'm just looking for some help before we try this one last time. she went to the verizon store and they had zero suggestions other than, if you try the last time and it fails it will be whiped. so i'm just asking for your expertise here.

I see your point. You don't need to move everything to outlook and then to the new phone. If you have both phones you could use the switch device wizard to move everything over, or create a backup of the old phone and restore it to the new one. But you would still need the password to do any of that.

DM will NOT change the password. She is doing something incorrect, she may have caps or num lock on the device, has she tried rebooting the device by removing the battery and trying to unlock it after that?

All we're saying is that you should have been up front that it's not your phone.

We get people here all the time that are trying to break into someone else's phone for whatever reason.

i really do understand that, and it is great that you try to weed them out. this just is not one of those cases. I just know its the curve from verizon (8300 i think?) i just thought it was easier to ask as if it happened to me and not have to explain this whole back story.

the phone was acting up on her so there may be some cap lock or something on.

inputting the password from the handset should be no different than from PC at this point i think right? so best final shot sounds like take battery out and totally reset it and input it as she has always done it on the phone? or do you think typing the letters from the PC would be better? the phone had been getting some errors and freezing a few times lately which is another reason she considered switching phones.

I truly do appreciate your help guys. sorry i didnt have all the details up front. i am just frustrated and feel responsible because she just wanted to manually type in all her contacts.

I would not connect the phone to the PC and put in the password. As I mentioned, if you type the password wrong on the PC, it will not only wipe the data, but it will remove the software and you'll wind up with a big JVM 507 error on it.

Unplug it from the PC. Have her go to the Verizon store and ask if she can type on someone's 8330 (someone there is bound to have one). Have her go into TEXT field (i.e., Memopad) and act as if she is typing her password (holding down whatever keys she normally holds down). Have her make a note of what shows on the screen - that's her password.

I believe pulling out the battery and resetting it still doesn't reset the password try count. You still only have one try left.
