I'm getting a sim error when I switch my sim card from my 7520 to my 7100i!
What do I have to do to clear the problem. Thanks

It just says "Sim Card error" at the top of the screen of the phone

Sounds like a faulty sim. We get some of those errors with my customers. May need to swap sims. If you still have a problem, It may be the device

Generally, its a bad sim. But there could be an issue with the connecting pins on the device.

I didn't think you could put the sim from a 7520 into the 7100i. You get a new SIM and of course a new PIN. I'm about 80% sure on the SIM card...

Um. I do this for a living. Trust me. The pin number is tied to the device, so of coarse that will change. But the sim card (unless Nextel is different) should be interchangeable (meaning you can move it from device to device).

As long as your not getting an "Unregistered SIM" error, then it is probably the two options that I suggested.

Just got off the phone with nextel blackberry- Seems you can't switch a 7520 Sim card to a 7100i because the 7520 is a 36 memory Sim and you need a 64 memory for the 7100i. They are not interchangeable

That would be the exception. We have some of those types of phones with Cingular. Except the phones are really really old. The old sims work in the new phones but the new sims wont work with the old phones. Had you had a 64 k sim in your 7520, it would have been able to transfer to your new phone.

Glad to hear you got it resolved

Correct. The 7520, or 7510, 6510 SIMs, will not work in the 7100.

I can confirm this as well. We have 7520's and and 7100i's (also 7290's, 7100g) deployed to our users. All the users who choose to upgrade to the 7100i must have a sim swap done in order to use the new phone.

Learn something everyday.. I knew some of the sim's were interchangeable but figured that would have carried forward to the 7100i...

Guess not.

if your question is if you can change your sim from your bb to your other devices, the answer is yes.

I actually just ran into this situation today, as well.

I was trying to swap the SIM from my 7520 into a 7100i, and got the SIM card error. Strangely, the "error" doesn't seem to do much more than display the "error" at the top of the screen. Digging through the settings, the phone was registered on the network, receiving calls/D.C.'s, and generally working fine.

So, I decided to try this: I have a Nextel SIM copier that will transfer data from a old SIM to a new one. However, that failed too... It looks like this reader won't read the 32k SIM that came with the 7520, so the copy over to the 64k SIM in the 7100i failed. :(

The next thing I was thinking of attempting was putting the 32k SIM in an old iDEN handset and seeing if I could RSS to dump the card, and then attempting to copy that over to the 64k SIM. Has anyone attempted this before?

Proxy, why don't you just back up the info/data from the 7520 using the desktop manager and restore the info/data onto the 7100?
I don't know if you transfered your contacts from your 7520 on to its sim card or not, but in most situations the data and your contacts do not get saved onto the sim card with the 7520.

Not to pick nits, but it is a 32k SIM, not 36.
