Default 8700g With T-Mobile

Please Login to Remove!

Well after Verizon Wireless refused to help me after having 4 Treo 700w phones that all stunk, I switched to T-Mobile.... Got the 8100 Pearl... returned it in 36 hours... Keyboard was way to small....

So now I have the 8700g. Phone is great. Only thing I wish it had was Voice Command. Guys how are you doing with TMobile service and the 8700g?? I have 10 more days to return if it's bad...

SHould I consider Cingulars Blackberry?? There's is a 8700c no? NOt as nice of a display??

Any help greatly appricated...

The 8700c and 8700g are essentially the same device. I have the "c" on Cingular and it works great. No real problems or issues with it at all. About as rock solid as I could hope for.

I know what you were going through witrh the Treo. I had 3 Treo 600s and a 650 brfore I got fed up.

I have the 8700G from T-MO and I love it. I dont have a problem with my service at all and to be honest the customer service they have with me has been great. No complaints from me all thumbs up!

It looks like the graphics on the Cingular 8700c look different then TMoblies 8700g. It looks like older icons.....

All of my friends around here are telling me that Cingular kills Tmobile in service. I am in Central New Jersey... Cingular is also alot more money per month minutes wise and total plan no??

your location definitely affects what the "best" service is. I have 8700g and I bounce between Orange County and Los Angeles almost daily, and I have had people in the biz of selling cell towers tell me that Verizon is the best in OC for service, but from experience, Verizon isn't great in parts of LA (pacific palisades/Malibu) - I have Tmo and I get good but not perfect service in OC and great service in LA.

I'd talk to your friends about their coverage, but also look at Tmo's website because you can look up what their coverage is in your area or nearly any other location.

Tmo appears to have the cheapest data/phone plan but cingular gives roll-over minutes, both have advantages and drawbacks.

If you really need voice command, you could always buy a bluetooth equipped Prius (or put a similarly equpped head unit in your car), and sync it with your phone

IMO, T-mo is lot better than Cingular and works great.. check your coverage and if that is there then your can not beat T-mo

So far so good. I have had the phone since MOnday.... Had maybe one dropped call, and good service... There are a few spots were the service drops down to one bar, and I got a slight echo, but it never lasted long...

I really am interested in the above post about Voice command, and how I can do that application with this 8700...

What he was saying in the previous post is that some cars, have Bluetooth capability and that a system like the one in the Prius adds voice commands to any Bluetooth compatible phone.

So you can't really add Voice Commands to the 8700g yet, but if you have a bluetooth headset that can store your contacts and your voice commands, then you can do it.

That's how it works in a Prius. You sync your contacts from your phone to your car then add voicetags to your contacts. The voicetags are stored in the car's computer and will only work when you dial from your car.

You can search the forum, but I'm pretty sure I read that even with the 4.2 version of the OS voice command won't be enable for the 8700.

Love my BB 8700c...but from what I can tell data plans on T-MO is cheaper so I wouldn't bother switching over to Cingular. Also correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the T-MO OS have a Zen theme that's just locked?

Zen theme is awesome...you'll find out later....sorry off topic a bit...lol

Happy with my 8700g with Tmob
It also depends on your location and where you spend most of the time-if you get the best signal or not. But Tmob has the best rate plans imo,I pay $70 with all the taxes for BIS with 1000 mins and now that they just added the 5 faves-i might switch to that.
Only thing that bummed me out was that you couldnt add unlimited nights/weekends to any bb plans.

Another vote for 8700g & T-Mobile.

If you can get over the need for voice command..whatever that is....stay with the 8700g and T-Mobile. This is a solid smartphone. It's not a Nokia RF performer, but given what you get in the phone, it's an outstanding converged device.

Luck.

Although I have switched to the Pearl, I think the 8700 is by far the best full sized "QWERTY" BlackBerry out there. I had one for several months - also in Central Jersey with no issues. Chinasaur is 100% correct that it doesn't compare well to the RF performance of a good Nokia, but the 8700g on T-Mobile is a great choice.

Now, back to my Pearl

Lightbulb T-mobile...stick with it!

Okay I live in Midtown Manhattan where EVERY phone company has towers. Getting good reception is never an issue for me but I wanted to test out the 8700c and the 8700g phones becasue I was not sure if I wanted T-mobile or Cingular. Hand's down; the T-mobile phone was better. The look of the screen is different also. Grant it; you can change the icons on the cingular phone just as well as the T-mobile phone BUT they still don't look quite the same. Also the NAVY BLUE from T-mobile looks better than the GRAY from Cingular. This is all my opinion

Just stick the T-mobile

I have a 8700g with TMO too.

had a 8100 Pearl for 24 hrs and exchanged to 8700g since I couldn't stand the small keypad and screen. TMO offer the cheapest data plan compare to any other providers. Good data plan and a great PDA.

I also did the same thing... Returned the Pearl and got the 8700. The one thing that is killing me is that I really miss the Voice Command of the 8100.... I am considering exchanging it back...... I do like the Wheel instead of the ball, I am just so confused guys....
