Default Blackberry Professional install on SBS

Please Login to Remove!

I am presently running BES (Small Business Version) on Server 2003. I also have a seperate SBS 2003.
My BES server is diying (motherboard issues) and i would like to install Blackberry Professional Software on the SBS 2003.
I currently only have 4 users, and dont think this will change.

Can someone provide some advise on installing and setup, considering it will be on another server, and will be on the SBS.

Any advise will be appreciated.

Thanks

I've done this before on a 30-user network with no problem. I didn't necessarily WANT to do it (if the client won't spend the money, they simply won't spend the money), but I was surprised that the server took it so well.

Are the SBS server specs decent?

I have the same issue, where my client will not purchase another box to run BPS...9 users on P4 2.8GHz machine with 3gb total memory....I have been hesitant to install BPS onto the Exchange server (2003 running MS Server 2003 sp2)

Any thoughts or concerns?

We run BPS on a SBS 2003 Server with 3gb of memory, a couple dozen SBS client licenses and a small handful of BB users. Other than some initial setup issues with BPS, we're having no operational issues.

If i begin the upgrade process from BES to BPS how will it upgrade if I install the BPS on the Exchange Server as the BES is now on its own server, that will be removed.

The P4 concerns me, but 9 users? I'd be willing to give it a try and see what happens, but that's just me. If everything goes to hell you can always remove/disable BES on the Exchange server, right?

Wait, what?

Oh, ok, I re-read that and now it makes sense... There are documents regarding migration to new hardware, and though I have never actually read these docs, I imagine it just involves a DB backup and restore and maybe some tweaking (but I could be wrong). And anyway, BES Express and BPS are basically the same thing - just a new name, as far as I can tell. (Can someone else shed some light on this?)

Our SBS is a dual core Xeon 1.6 CPU (2 of), with 4 gig ram.

This should handle it.

100% Correct, I have tape and raid backup every night. I am planning an implementation over the weekend, so that users will have minimal downtime, as well as minimal loss of data if there is a meltdown.

This is going to be my first implementation of BPS...any suggestions?

Yeah, I don't know. I would monitor the load on the server a little and see what, where and when are your bottlenecks and go from there.

Anyway, if you proceed your only downtime should be a couple reboots. No big deal.

So far so good....BPS installed with minimal issue (SQL and I are like oil and vinegar...that took a while) and I have 1 user online as of now. Will have 8 other users online within the next 2 weeks. After this....I will be able to remove Goodlink....and then resources will open up (I hope) and prevent further hardware related issues.

Thanks to all for all the assistance

I have been looking into several exchange hosting partnership programs, however, no sales people are available to talk, so I have given up. I plan on downloading the MS Small Business Server 2007 trial tonight in an attempt to host myself. My box is about 5 years old. I believe it has 1.8Ghz Intel and 2G of RAM and about 40 gig hard drive. Will this be enough power to handle the SBS2007 and BES Express option from RIM?

Maybe I should start a new thread...
