Got a question for any T-Mo aficianados or reps that are reading this forum. I just got new service with T-Mo this past Friday, and I bought the Pearl. I have 14 days to return it if I don't like it.
It just so happens that this 14 day period includes the 24th. Can I take return my Pearl and all of the packaging and what have you, and get the Curve for the new 2-year contract price?
Thanks in advance.

yes, you can still get it exchange. But make sure you do it that day. What's worst is if the 8320 will be pushed back, which i'm hoping not.

My 14 day return will end on that Friday. Can you pre-order it?

No GPS Boo Hoo
As much as I am a fan of Tmo service as opposed to the evil ATT empire
and equally a fan of RIM products. Isn't it going backwards to not offer a Curve with GPS built in? WiFi is nice and definitely (along with GPS) becoming the norm with smart phones, but why oh why could both features not be included in the 8320??
The HTC Tilt w/ Blackberry Connect is looking more and more appealing. RIM is getting me mad!!!!

And the store manager said she would be willing to exchange it for the 8320 if I kept service. I was originally planning on terminating service and signing up again once they hit. So that might be an option if you get a cooperative store manager.

I had heard talk about this among some people in the know, and it seems that it has something to do with FCC rules . . . putting a limit on the number of RF's a device can be fitted with . . . so, with the 8320 you have Wi-Fi, BT, Cell, and EDGE/GPRS....
The 8310 then swaps Wi-Fi RF with GPS . . .
Of course, someone with more substantial reason for this set-up is welcome to share their knowledge on this matter . . .

I don't think so. GPS is receive only... no broadcasting from the device, unlike WiFi, Bluetooth, GSM, etc... I would guess it had to do with size. They already crammed a heck of a lot into a pretty small package. Maybe there wasn't room for the GPS and the WiFi. I would expect a model that had it all down the road as all the components continue to get smaller.

they do the tracking. not the other way around. GPS for 911 calls is very different and frankly most carriers havent kept to the fcc ruling to install it.

I would rather have Wi-Fi in the device vs GPS, as you can get an external GPS puck pretty easily and it's small enough to keep on your keychain. But do you have an option if it doesn't have Wi-Fi in it? Nope, and actually I think I will use the Wifi portion of the UMA very frequently and it will save on my minute usage greatly and reception issues I have in some locations.
Besides, I want to see how this thing does UMA over a EVDO connection from sprint.. lol... That's one nerd thing I will do and it would be easy to have my laptop do the connecting if I'm in an area where I get EVDO connection, but little or poor GSM.
I doubt I'll find a place where EVDO is and GSM isn't, and I just realized how nerdy the above statement is. Wow...

Thanks for your explanation
So assuming I donxxx8217;t buy home spot plan, I will be able to make calls with a wi-fi enable BB as long as I am within a range of wireless router connected to the internet, even my location is not in TMOxxx8217;s coverage, like some rural area? The only difference is my calls will eat whenever minutes, right?
That is too good to be true!

That is exactly right - so if you roam overseas any calls you make over wifi would come out of your minutes and you will not be charged at the roaming rates.

No. The Pearl does not.
The T-Mobile Curve (8320) is the first T-Mobile Blackberry to include wi-fi which is what allows the HotSpot@home service and UMA calling (across Wi-Fi)...
The 8800 and Pearl (8100) do not support Wi-Fi.

Does anyone have a confirmed price yet? I've heard anywhere from $249 - $399. I'm eligible to get mine for the new 2-yr. contract price.

I just read on BGR that AT&T just released the BB 8820 and the price is $299 with a two year contract. Hopefully, T-Mo will price the 8320 under $299 with new activation.

Hi everyone. I am new to the forum. I was wondering if anybody could tell me that the new tmobile wifi blackberry phones work on any wifi connection in the world. I travel several times a year for business and this is probably the deciding factor in upgrading to this new phone. Thanks !

As long as the wi-fi is accessible, meaning open or you have security key to secured network, you should be able to use the UMA . . .
