Historicly how much lead time does RIM give for the release of a new phone?

Well I think RIM is just about done with whatever needs to be done. What most hold ups are, is carriers testing the phones and checking the software. Depending on the amount of major bugs it could be sent back to RIM to fix? I have only seen that 2 times that a phone fails and is sent back to the manufacturer.

According to the info & picture that BGR has, Verizon is showing the Storm 2 as coming in October!

I don't know if there will be a ATT release? Verizon several month back said they would have it but ATT has never said they were getting the Storm? or Storm 2? I guess you will have to get one that is unlocked?

I was speaking Verizon on the phone today and they said that they didn't have a release date as of yet.

would love it also but i hope that theres more memory to download apps.. i mean how can u have a touch screen phone without tons of apps!

Well the Storm is now 49 dollars so they are trying to get rid of all the storms to make room for the storm2. Who know when that date will be.

So for the people that got the Storm1 back in December with a 2 year contract they will probably not be able to get this new and improved version for another year without paying full price?

Yes. New models come out all the time. A new 8900 obtained today won't be a free or discount upgrade to a 9700.
