Looking at the phone out right now and phone being introduced at MWC '09 it looks like Blackberry is YEARS behing in Hardware and its UI.
Even WinMon is beginning to look ALOT better then the BB OS. Palm took a huge step forwad with its webOS to compete in a much more competitive smartphone market place.
Just looking at Hardware iPhone, n97, diamond2 touch pro2, Palm Pre, e75, TG01. Those and more completely destroy BB in terms of Hardware. software is subjective to the user so i wont touch that. UI however it seems to to be a bit lacking. Android, iPhone Os, WebOS, possibly WinMo all have nicer loking OSes than BB.
Ireally hope the Blackberry comes out with something big this year. Not just the same old stuff with QWERTY or suretype keyboard with a slick skin on an aging OS.
I agree that the OS needs to be updated to keep up. As for the hardware, they are bringing out new devices, such as the Storm, the flip pearl, and so on. They are working their way into the consumer market. The phones you've mentioned were designed for the consumer market, not enterprise market.
That is an area that RIM is trying to make it's way into. I believe they know what they're doing. There are a few new devices on the roadmap for '09 - early '10. We will see how things go.
I would agree that RIM is behind in hardware. There are so many choices out there for phones that have more standard features - touch screen, full keyboard, wifi, gps, 3G all in the same device. I really think wifi and 3g should be standard on all smartphones.
yeah i think so too. at least for ATT(with the 3g)
you also have to consider what RIM is aiming at. they give us this phone. its more locked down than the iPhone. it has lack of "dedicated" 2nd and 3rd party developers like some other phones. they seem to be more basic than other phones (until the storm and pearl flip).
but look at what you get. you get an open source java based OS. yeah, it looks plain compared to some other phones, but we get cool themes, and the best part it. WAY LESS ERRORS THAN OTHER DEVICES. not as many crashes like WinMo. not as many carrier and other restrictions like the iphone. and not nearly as expensive as the good Nokia phones. the Closest thing to a Berry in terms of function is Palm. and with the Push email from RIM, business want the berry..
as it was said before blackberry is function. not fashion.
I think the OS (software) is falling behind, the hardware is less of an issue.
and BB is both fashion and function, just ask the "i don't have a data plan" people.
