The problem with the Torch is that it is RIM's pinnacle device that is yet to be released but its specs don't even compare with the current offerings from its competitors. Yes it offers security but that has really become its only advantage. The form factor is dated, the screen size is dated, the screen resolution is dated, it uses a processor that is half the speed of its competitors, it's bringing out a "hopefully" much improved user interface/OS and it is just coming out with a "hopefully" satisfactory browser.

Aren't you just a bit concerned about the performance when their samples used by the media have shown issues with lag? Yes, they are going to put OS6 on the other current devices but what will the performance be like? Aren't they bringing out a second version of the 9700 with twice the memory because it will perform better with the new OS?

I do want the latest features. I would like an easy to use and read browser that doesn't require side scrolling. I want a device that I don't constantly have to fight with over permissions to use apps (I know this adds safety but I feel like there is a better way for RIM to handle this such as working with developers to develop better testing/easier way to handle install). It would be nice to toss a movie or two on there to watch during a trip or extended wait (I have tried watching movies on my 9700 and the small screen just doesn't work well especially with letterbox). I think a phone company that has been in this business as long as RIM and developed as sophisticated of devices as they have would be at the forefront of this type of technology. Instead, it feels like they are trailing the pack and have no idea how to catch up.

I hope I'm wrong.

I don't really understand why people want a BlackBerry to be like an iPhone or like an Android device. If you really want something like an Android, go buy one ffs.

I love my BlackBerry for what it is and I don't expect it to be what it is not. I would like the browser to be better, but I am happy with the speed of the device overall, the number of apps I can run, the way it does email and its security, etc, etc. etc.

Sometimes I think the media has conspired to bash RIM with all the negative hype and saying things like "Most BlackBerry users want to switch...". Sorry I don't buy that.

Yes. The logic--or lack of it--that is posted sometimes is astonishing.

So iphone and android devices run tons of apps? "We have an app for that." That's not a reason for me to switch, unless there's an app I need to run that I can't do on the blackberry. The fact that more apps are available on another device doesn't make it the better device for me.

Yeah, the blackberrys browser isn't all that great. But it does most of what I need, and on balance I live with it because the total blackberry package is the best for me. The fact that another device has a better browser doesn't make that other device better for me.

I could go on and on. It is the total package. There is no superior device. The best one is the one that's best for you.

For me, no one does notification better than the BB platform. Used the IP4 and Captivate on AT&T and I'm always wondering (having to check) if anything new has come in. Its what works for you that matters...... specs are just a way to show what's under the hood. The new notification drop-down menu is a welcomed addition. Kinda like having the Today theme integrated with universal inbox.

Apple has an app for everything and they are all secure. RIM is seriously screwing themselves by not putting hdmi out on this phone, and a better screen technology, bigger screen, 4g, and 1ghz + processor and better battery OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

evo, droid x, droid 2, samsung vibrant, samsung captivate, nexus one, hd2, etc etc, every new smartphone out now should at least have 1ghz processor, PATHETIC!!!

I have to try this thing out myself though to see how crappy it really is.

I am a 9000 bold user, and I was dying to get this phone when announced a few months ago.

My total disappointment:

1. screen resolution: the same as bold 9700 while the screen is almost twice the size of it???

2. processor: the same as bold 9000?

3. ram only 512mb?

Seriously, for those who are defending RIM saying "if you dont like it, get over and go buy iphone or android", dont be such an oldschooler!

I have been carrying two phones: bold 9000 and iphone 3gs. why? because i use bold for business purposes, but iphone for GPS, Internet, Music, and Video. I see many frequent business travelers with bold and iphone just for this reason: we do not only work hard by reading company emails every second but also know to relax by listening to music, watching movies, and browse internet!!!

I was wishing that TORCH would be the ALL-IN-ONE solution for business users but also for average end users, by offering superior email solution (BIS BES), superior socialnetworking (BBM, FB, Twitter), and quality multimedia, all in one single device!!! In the end, what I am looking for is a perfect business phone with competitive multimedia experience (at least comparable to iphone 3gs). For RIM, I dont think it was too difficult to increase screen resolution. Seriously, at 480x360 on that large screen? I dont think it was too difficult to increase RAM size to 1gb at least, if it was impossible to find a solution to install apps on ROM or microSD!!! I dont think it was too difficult for them to put faster processor to improve multitasking experience!!!

I am disappointed, RIM...

PS: I will wait and see if any of those chinese fakebrands come up with better hardware!!!
