Default Unlocked 8900 on AT&T in the States - Success

It's 100% validated, I have a Rogers Unlocked Curve 8900 fully setup and working perfectly on AT&T in the US.

I did not need to load any service books manually or anything.
I have setup my BIS and it works, SMS works, Phone works, WiFi works, MMS works.

It's all good....great phone so far!

Cheers!

Adams,

did you add a BB plan to your account before going through the web BIS push?

OLAM wasn't adding bb plans and customer service was closed yesterday. I connected with Cory and his gut tells him I need to add the bb plan before the "warning" i received goes away.

I am calling CS after work to add bb plan.

yea Dolo... i have a good feeling that once the plan is added and you setup your account on AT&T BIS site you wont have any issues... if you do, please email me and i will take care of it right away for you

My edge is capital EDGE.

I already had a BB plan on my account, I've been using blackberries for years.

Cory and all

We have lift off!

Adding the BB plan did the trick. The op did say "is that an att phone?" I said no, bought a spare on ebay unlocked. Is there an issue? "nope not at all." Just sent the service books over and setup email via web BIS login.

A couple of questions Adams and all:
- Did your service books come with yellow pages mobile, etc? (mine didn't)
- Did you 2nd browser for EDGE browsing? (I have a Cart icon called MEdia Net, but get a 403 error)

Thanks again for all the help.

For the record (if it wasn't official enough) CCG is a great company - high level of integrity and are extremely customer focused. They went above and beyond. Thanks again Cory.

Regards,
dolo

Closing the loop on this. For anyone that gets a Rogers 8900
1) Get it unlocked and synch up with Cory from these forums (his team is top notch and best price and highest value - of course IMO)
2) if you're phone is unlocked - go to #3
3) Add BB plan - don't try to go to att.blackberry.com and try to add an account there
4) ATT most certainly will activate the 8900 for you - if they say they won't hang up and call again

Thanks again to everyone for their help and have a safe holiday!

Regards,
dolo

Default Additional questions

For those of you that have purchased unlocked Rogers 8900 and are using AT&T network-

Do you lose ANY capability that I would have if I wait until ATT carries the device?= BB411, google maps, etc.

Once ATT carries the device would I use their software updates or Rogers?

Does your screen (even though unlocked) still read Rogers?

All of the software is written by RIM, and tested and released by the carriers. There is no "AT&T version" or Rogers version. It will all work.

Unlocking a BlackBerry does not change the splash startup screen.

Just a clarification of your answer to the previous post.

Being in Los Angeles,...the 8900 works flawlessly on the AT&T network? So if I was to purchase an 8900 off of an independent retailer (or eBay as an example), once unlocked there should be no problems using all functions.

No there will be no issues at all. Except UMA will not work, as AT&T doesnt support the feature. SO everything else will work perfectly

And UMA is the use of Wi-Fi, correct? So I'll have Internet access just as a Curve 83XX but no Wi-Fi (sorry for the lame question - an obvious newbie when it comes to BB).

What he meant was that you will have internet and everything via wifi, but UMA will not work... UMA is where you can use the connection to your wifi to transfer voice calls etc over... UMA needs to be supported by your carrier for that to work... T-Mobile supports UMA but at&t does not... so you will have wifi like the 8320 but no UMA make sense?

Doesn't make complete sense to me but neither does it sound like a feature I'd use. Thanks for your help.

Jason:

I currently have an 8310, and just purchased an unlocked (Rogers) 8900, and AT&T is my service provider. What do I need to do to get the phone to work with AT&T other than putting in sim card.?

Thanking you in advance

I have a question. I'm currently with at&t myself and I would like to get the 8900 to work with them also.

If I were to buy a T-mobile 8900 and have it unlocked will it work just the same as it were a Rogers 8900 like dolo had his work? Or is there a difference?
