Default How long does it take to convert from SQL 2005 to MSDE if you did all the prep work

Please Login to Remove!

I have folllowed the directions to convert theSQL 2005 Database on my 5.0 MR2. The SQL server has all the right permissions, etc and i can expand the table and see all my users and attributes.

I must go through change management to do this and need to submit an estimated time. It would seem that if you stop the services, start up the configuration manager, repoint the database and restart the services this could be done in 20 minutes or so. I would then also want to do it to my backup BES Server (which would then be true high availability) as it is now pointed to the SQL 2005 database.

Would the mail flow start up right away? Would I have to reboot BES 1 and 2? Can i easily revert if there is an issue (we take a VM snapshot). Any thoughts would be appreciated

Why go to MSDE?

But if you must, it only takes about 20 min or less if all is prepped.

follow this doc
KB03112-How to move the BlackBerry Configuration Database to a new Microsoft SQL Server instance

you would know as soon as BES comes up like a normal reboot.

no database access means no BES running.

Do you have users on both BES servers or is BES 2 just for HA?

BES 2 strictly HA. Not functioning now as we have only one database.

So basically stop services, go into config, point it to the SQL database, reboot and if it comes up with all users in Blackberry Admin panel i am good to go.

With a VM snapshot my recovery period is very quick.

For BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0

BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0 does not have a change database option like previous versions. KB18129 explains the process for BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0.
KB18129-How to change the BlackBerry Configuration Database in BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0 and 5.0 SP1
