On my 7290, when someone called and I wanted to just silence the phone's ringer but still have the caller go through the typical set of rings (4 usually) before going to voicemail, I could do this by just simply scrolling either up or down with the trackwheel. And the ringer would go silent.
I found it just more polite than sending the caller directly to voicemail after just one or two rings which is what the Ignore feature does.
On my 8800, when I try to move the trackball in any direction while a call is coming through and ringing doesn't change a thing. The phone still rings.
Pressing either escape or menu buttons beside the trackball only silence 1 ring, to start up again on the next ring.
Does anyone know how to silence the ring? Call it the "In Law" feature...
I don't know if it is the same on an 8800 but I have an 8100 and had the same problem until I hit down on the side external volume button. Silences the call but doesn't dump em to voicemail.
when i had the 8100 and i hit the down volume button, it would silence the ringer for maybe 3 seconds, and then it would come on again, so the mute button works for me
