I have been contemplating getting the Curve in addition to my Pearl. I found out that because I use a BES I cannot switch between the two devices. If I were to use a BIS I could just switch the SIM and still get my email, correct?

No, your BIS account is set for a specific PIN, which is unique to each device. You'd have to update your BIS account to reflect the PIN you're currently using.

You make it sound like it's impossible to switch device if you're on BES or BIS.

Not the case. True it's not at simple as a plain GSM phone, pop the SIM card from one device to the other and go.

But it can be done. With BES simply do a new enterprise activation. That takes a few minutes and you're good to go.

With BIS just log on to you carrier's BIS site and change the PIN assigned to your account. That takes thirty seconds.

In any case, although not super-simple, either way can be done.

True, it can be done, but it's not as simple as switching SIM cards.

Since I'm on a BES with Mailstreet I would have to call them to do the Enterprise Activation each time I switched between the two phones.

I have found recently that BES detects a PIN switch and asks if I want to activate a new device automatically. It's relatively simple on BES. I have not had to call the last two or three times I switched BB.

Are you using hosted or company BES, mas90guru? I know for our company BES if I connect a new Blackberry to my PC and start Desktop Manager it asks if I want to switch..... would it do the same for a hosted BES?

If you have Desktop Manager, you only have to generate a new encryption key on the device you're switching to. Enterprise activation will begin shortly after that.

However, Enterprise Activation takes about 30-45 minutes to complete (longer if you have more data to sync).

Wow. I just did one on my new Curve and it took less than ten minutes. Guess I don't have a lot of data. ;)

From what the guys at Exchange My Mail have told me the cabled Enterprise Activation isn't as good as the OTA one. For whatever reason they don't recommend using the cabled way.

It's exactly the same with hosted BES (BES is BES). You can kick off an EA via USB if you have Desktop Manager installed.

You can acutally start the EA with the cable and then once it starts you can unplug and it will finish OTA, too. However, I've done them connected to the computer with the wireless off the entire time. I did my last one that way.

My company uses Mailstreet for our hosted Exchange and BES and I've changed from BB to Windows to Good and back again more times than I can count. I call their support line and they take care of it - I'm back up in no time. Their service is fantastic.
