Question Can you only access certain websites with WiFi?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi everyone I am new to this website and I have a few questions about my Blackberry curve 8520's WiFi. I don't have a data plan. So far WiFi has been working great for me However, I'm just wondering that because I don't have the data plan, does that mean that I can only access certain websites with WiFi and not the entire web? Also, earlier when I tried to access Facebook with my blackberry a message popped up saying the server was busy or something...and now its working. Does anyone know why is that? Ok thanks so much for taking the time to read this long post! Thank you!

So far youxxx8217;re lucky. Most large carriers are detecting Blackberryxxx8217;s and adding a data plan automatically. If you see sites that do not respond for a few minutes itxxx8217;s probably not the site or phone. I would suggest it is just internet traffic congestion.
Site restriction should not be an issue.

Wifi allows you to get online in general, it doesn't have anything to do with the websites. So if you have wifi you should be able to get on any website you would like.

Do you know if TMobile does this? I remember when I signed up for my Berry they told me to either choose the data plan or unlimited texting...I chose unlimited texting. So does anyone know if I'll be allright then? I really don't want any extra charges, lol.

In general you are correct, however if you are on a BES the BES can force all traffic through the companies network, expanding the company internet policy to the BlackBerry. If that is applicable to the correct issue.

Neither Sprint nor Verizon will activate a BlackBerry unless you have a BlackBerry data plan on your account.

AT&T, being GSM and using SIM cards, requires a data plan but folks can pop their non-BlackBerry provisioned SIM card in one and use it for phone and text. What AT&T now does is to scan users' devices and if they detect that you're using a BlackBerry they will simply add a BB data plan to your account. And charge you for it, of course.

T-Mobile has traditionally been the most lenient with these things and may still allow BlackBerrys without the BB data plan. They also do not have the "fair use" cap on their unlimited data plans. Yet.

Thanks for the information. I'm glad I'm with T Mobile...hopefully they won't change around their Berry policies about data plans anytime soon...

Interesting....When my daughter upgraded to a 9700 with TMo in April the store had a hard time switching over to the new BB without activating a new data plan. Her old plan included BIS, Texting and Voice Minutes, but was no longer being offered. It took the manager multiple tries, several phone calls and he finally had to have them add a plan and he was able to delete just to get the original plan back as I liked it and the pricing was good.

TMo's new pricing would have been about $20 more a month than we were paying.

The manager did state that TMo now requires a BB Data Plan to activate a BB on their system. Glad he was able to help us out....

YMMV.....
