tys,
It would appear that your IT dept has locked your device down. Not much I can do. If the WAP settings don't work you're not going to get this going without your IT dept allowing Split Pipes.
csquare...I don't understand why the stocks are working and the weather not??? Anyway, the 7750 is a device that really doesn't have the proper infrastructure for direct internet access and this is hurting you. What settings did you do to get the stocks to work?

Mark,
I used the last settings you gave me. which were as follows:
csqaure,
"I did a bit more searching here and it appears that the 7750 does NOT have a tcp/ip stack. So, try the WAP settings. Set Internet Connection to Default, set WAP, put a space in the APN field and
Gateway IP: 153.114.115.100
Port 9203
Then exit PD and restart.
Nobody that I've seen can get any third party stuff working on the 7750. WAP is your only hope and it's slim...
Mark"

Why the need to put a space in the APN Field?

When filling in the other info, if you just leave the APN blank, it will kick back the entry.

Mark,
That's what I was afraid of. I've found out who my IT Specialists are and have generated a lengthy email/request for their assistance. We shall see what happens. FYI, I tried the "direct" connection and got an error message stating that the application was attemping to make an internal and external connection to the firewall which is not allowed per the it policy (don't know if I told you that yet or not).
Also, I have a problem using the speeddial feature in that it only lets me assign one letter! All attempts to assign a speeddial # to more than one letter (a different letter) fail.

csquare- thanks for the response - but I'm still confused. In your note, you stated Mark told you to put in a space. In your note to me you stated to leave it blank. There is a difference to me as a space does indicate a valid key stroke/character. What do you mean by "it will kick back the entry"? Does this mean if I leave it blank it'll kick back the appropriate entry? Does it mean it'll fail? I followed Marks instruction for my device and he said to leave it blank, not put in a space.

Sorry, didn't mena to say leave it blank. With Verizon, and not running BES, you have to put a space in the APN field as an entry. If you leave it blank and try to save the settings, a pop up will say that the needs to be a valid APN name.

Weather issue
Hi,
My PD weather problem seems to be a different issue than I've seen described. I'm using PD 2.13 on a BB 7250, on an Alltel network. The error I'm seeing is "java.io.IOException: Bad DNS Address"
Can anyone help me with that? Thanks!

Mark,
Is there a way to have the weather check in certain intervals? Like every hour or at a certain time of the day?
Thanks!

Mark,
I don't know if others have brought this up. But there are two things that keep bothering me that maybe you can address.
1. Delete Confirmation Dialog: Can you make it comform to the same one that is native on the blackberry itself. When I hit the delete key yours prompts with Delete Messages? Yes or NO with shortcut keys of Y or N. When in the messages I hit the delete key it asks Delete Item? Delete or Cancel with shortcut keys of D or C. I am always hitting the D shortcut when your dialog wants me to hit the Y.
2. Settings: When I am wanting to change an option in settings and I click the track wheel it always defaults to "Save" as opposed to "Change Option" unlike the standard option fields throughout the blackberry. A lot of times I automatically click the track wheel twice to go in and change an option and then realize I have saved the settings and am back in Pocketday. I think there is some intelligence that looks if things have been modified on the standard pages that then defaults to "Save" but if nothing has changed it defaults to change options. It also monitors if after you have modified the field and moved to another field it defaults to "Change Option" versus "Save". If you stay on the modified field and click the track wheel if defaults to "Save".
There are just minor useabilty issues. I love the product and keep up the great work.
Regards,
-Mark

Weather and stock update issues
Thought I'd let people know how I finally got this working smoothly. For some reason, I can no longer shut off my firewall on the BB (I assume it's something my IS team needs to fix, but they haven't yet).....anyway, it was screwing up the stock and weather updates.
When the firewall warning would pop up saying that pocketday was trying to access the weather website, I would always check allow and don't ask for any http connections. I was not checking the box that said allow and don't ask for this specific connection (b/c I figured allowing all should work). Now, after checking both boxes, it's updating both again.
Maybe this helps some of you that are still having problems.

Version 2.13
Mark,
I started using PD at version 1.6 and have just downloaded 2.13. You have made some great changes to the program based on the comments you have received here. Thanks for all your work. I look forward to being a long-term PocketDay user.

I wiped my BB clean this morning and reinstalled PocketDay to try your approach - no luck. I hope to speak with tier 2 this afternoon to see if there's something else I can try. My IT Admins are ignoring my request for help - typical at my place of employment!
Mark - I purchased the license from you today anyways. Even though I can't get speed-dial and weather/stocks to work for me, the daily snap-shot and other features are valuable to me. I suspect one day the speeddial will be fixed and am hopeful my IT people will come around...

I stand corrected - after reading the user guide again, I had to trick a few address book entries with a fake email address inorder to get the phone # logged in the speeddial entry. Why the dependancy on an email address to get a phone # on the speeddial list?

Very strange stuff just started to happen to pocketDay after I installed desktop 4.0 sp1. Now pocketday unread email list keeps changing to display all of my unread email (several hundred :-[ ) even though I have the settings to show only 5. I can reset this and it goes back to normal until I reconnect to the desktop manager and sync. Then it is back to showing all unread email. Seems something is conflicting with the new version and PocketDay.

Could the PocketDay folks explain the advantage of using a custom email viewer instead of the native BlackBerry email message viewer? I'm so accustomed to the behavior and features of the native email viewer. BBToday used the native email viewer so it should be possible, no? PocketDay is really fantastic and much better than BBToday in every area except for this.

tys...the email link to the speeddial is a BlackBerry issue. Hopefully they'll fix it someday.
ahovis...make sure you're running 2.13. That sounds like an old issue.
r111...The custom email viewer is purely for convenience. You can jump to the standard message app just by pressing the M key. The issue is that it's not currently possible to highlight a message and open it in the standard message app, otherwise I would have done that.

Thanks and one small bug?
Add another person who thinks this is a really great program to your list. The missed calls feature almost caused me to return my 7290 until I found your app.
Running v2.13 on a BB7290 with OS4, I've set up 3 weather locations. When I go to the third location it shows the weather for the same location as number one. In this case I have location one setup as home and location three setup as Las Vegas. Picking either location shows the weather for home. I did double check to make sure I had the right location code entered. Very minor issue but I'd be interested in your thoughts when other things are pressing.
Thanks for the great app!

pktday 2.13 bes 4 sp1 7250 bb4 when i speed dial get prompt
that " the application pday is attempting to initiate a phone call. would you like to allow this phone call. yes/no"
this occurs on every call. is there an IT policy setting to change to allow access w/o prompting?
