How can i transfer files (eg .pdf) from the laptop to the Pearl device.
I have paired and established a connection but when i tranfer a file it gives me the following error

service file tranfer is not found on the device bb 8100

Under the services of bluetooth i can only see(device properties) only PIM transfer. Is there any way around??

You have to accept the file that you wish to receive in a dedicated folder. I.E.for music; Media> music> media card> menu> receive using bluetooth.

I discovered the answer on my own after a lot of head scratching.

I have a related question though:

How can I send contact information via bluetooth? I have a Nokia phone paired with my BB-8100 and I can send contacts as a file, but they cannot be moved into the address book. And I see no direct means by which to transfer a contact via bluetooth. Does anyone know if this is possible? If so, how?

There is a specific BBDM (Desktop Manager) for Windows Vista 64-bit if thats what your using. I forget what thread here its listed but its around and posted in February I believe.

As for what Bluetooth drivers/chip your laptop is using .... you'll need to transfer apps with the extension .alx or .cod to your BB unit. Just follow the steps above for receiving to a specific folder > preferably the device.

Jagga...

The DM uses the .alx file to point at the .cod file. Transferring the .alx file to the bby won't work. It's the .cod file that gets loaded to the device, but I don't know if there is info in the .alx that is needed to set it up properly. Therefore, I don't know if loading the .cod directly to the device works either. Best to use DM and let it use the files it needs.

Yes, .alx/.cod is DM-only.
.jad files are pointers to .jar files and are for use only for over-the-air installs.
